Bildad: Man is Inferior

1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

1 Then Baldad the Sauchite answered and said, 1 Then Baldad the Sauchite answered and said,

2 Dominion and fear are with him, he makes peace in his high places.

2 τί γὰρ προοίμιον φόβος παρ’ αὐτοῦ, ποιῶν τὴν σύμπασαν ἐν ὑψίστῳ; 2 τί γὰρ προοίμιον φόβος παρ’ αὐτοῦ ποιῶν τὴν σύμπασαν ἐν ὑψίστῳ;
2 What beginning or fear is his–even he who makes all things in the highest? 2 What beginning or fear is his–even he who makes all things in the highest?

3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doesn’t his light arise?

3 μὴ γάρ τις ὑπολάβοι ὅτι ἔστιν παρέλκυσις πειραταῖς;
ἐπὶ τίνας δὲ οὐκ ἐπελεύσεται ἔνεδρα παρ’ αὐτοῦ;
3 μὴ γάρ τις ὑπολάβοι ὅτι ἐστὶ παρέλκυσις πειραταῖς, ἐπὶ τίνας δὲ οὐκ ἐπελεύσεται ἔνεδρα παρ’ αὐτοῦ;
3 For let none think that there is a respite for robbers: and upon whom will there not come a snare from him? 3 For let none think that there is a respite for robbers: and upon whom will there not come a snare from him?

4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

4 πῶς γὰρ ἔσται δίκαιος βροτὸς ἔναντι κυρίου;
τίς ἄν ἀποκαθαρίσαι ἑαυτὸν γεννητὸς γυναικός;
4 πῶς γὰρ ἔσται δίκαιος βροτὸς ἔναντι Κυρίου;
τίς ἄν ἀποκαθαρίσαι αὐτὸν γεννητὸς γυναικός;
4 For how shall a mortal be just before the Lord? or who that is born of a woman shall purify himself? 4 For how shall a mortal be just before the Lord? or who that is born of a woman shall purify himself?

5 Behold even to the moon, and it shines not; yes, the stars are not pure in his sight.

5 If he gives an order to the moon, then it shines not; and the stars are not pure before him. 5 If he gives an order to the moon, then it shines not; and the stars are not pure before him.

6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?

6 But alas! man is corruption, and the son of man a worm. 6 But alas! man is corruption, and the son of man a worm.
