1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
1 Why did the nations rage, and the people think about vanity? | 1 Why did the nations rage, and the people think about vanity? |
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

2 The kings of the land stood up, and the rulers gathered together, against the Lord, and against his anointed; (musical pause) | 2 The kings of the land stood up, and the rulers gathered together, against the Lord, and against his anointed; (musical pause) |
3 Let’s break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
3 Let’s break through their bonds, and throw away their yoke from us. | 3 Let’s break through their bonds, and throw away their yoke from us. |
4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
4 He who dwells in the heavens will laugh at them, and the Lord will mock them. | 4 He who dwells in the heavens will laugh at them, and the Lord will mock them. |
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
5 Then he will speak to them in his anger, and agitate them in his wrath. | 5 Then he will speak to them in his anger, and agitate them in his wrath. |
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
6 But I have been made king by him on Siōn his holy mountain, | 6 But I have been made king by him on Siōn his holy mountain, |
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD has said unto me, You are my Son; this day have I fathered you.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give you the heathen for your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.

9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, Oh you kings: be instructed, you judges of the earth.

10 Therefore, you kings, understand; be instructed, all you who judge the earth. | 10 Therefore, you kings, understand; be instructed, all you who judge the earth. |
