Psalm 11
(LXX 10)

AlexandrinusVaticanus

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

Unto the end, a Psalm of David. Unto the end, a Psalm of David.

1 I put my trust in the LORD; How can you say to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

μεταναστεύου ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη ὡς στρουθίον;
μεταναστεύου ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη ὡς στρουθίον;
1 I have trusted upon the Lord; how will you say to my soul,
Flee to the mountains like a sparrow?
1 I have trusted upon the Lord; how will you say to my soul,
Flee to the mountains like a sparrow?

2 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privately shoot at the upright in heart.

2 Because look! the sinners have bent a bow, they prepared arrows for the quiver, to shoot in a dark night at the upright in heart. 2 Because look! the sinners have bent a bow, they prepared arrows for the quiver, to shoot in a dark night at the upright in heart.

3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

3 ὅτι κατηρτίσω καθεῖλον, δὲ δίκαιος τί ἐποίησεν; 3 ὅτι σὺ κατηρτίσω, αὐτοὶ καθεῖλον· δὲ δίκαιος τί ἐποίησε;
3 Because they pulled down what you establised, but what did the righteous do? 3 Because they pulled down what you establised, but what did the righteous do?

4 The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’s throne is in heaven; his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

5 The LORD tries the righteous; but the wicked and him who loves violence his soul hates.

5 The Lord examines the righteous and the impious; and the one who loves unrighteousness hates his own soul. 5 The Lord examines the righteous and the impious; and the one who loves unrighteousness hates his own soul.

6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest; this shall be the portion of their cup.

6 Upon sinners he will rain down traps; fire and sulphur and wind of a storm are the portion of their cup. 6 Upon sinners he will rain down traps; fire and sulphur and wind of a storm are the portion of their cup.

7 For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; his countenance beholds the upright.

7 Because the Lord is righteous, and loved righteousness; his face saw uprightness. 7 Because the Lord is righteous, and loved righteousness; his face saw uprightness.
