Psalm 137
(LXX 136)

AlexandrinusVaticanus
For David, a Psalm of Jeremias. For David, a Psalm of Jeremias.

1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yes, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst of it.

3 For there they who carried us away captive required of us a song; and they who wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

3 For there they who had taken us captive asked of us the words of a song; and they who had carried us away asked a hymn, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Sion. 3 For there they who had taken us captive asked of us the words of a song; and they who had carried us away asked a hymn, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Sion.

4 How shall we sing the LORD’s song in a strange land?

4 Πῶς ᾄσωμεν τὴν ᾠδὴν κυρίου ἐπὶ γῆς ἀλλοτρίας; 4 πῶς ᾄσωμεν τὴν ᾠδὴν Κυρίου ἐπὶ γῆς ἀλλοτρίας;
4 How should we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land? 4 How should we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?

5 If I forget you, Oh Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

5 If I forget you, Oh Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill. 5 If I forget you, Oh Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill.

6 If I do not remember you, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7 Remember, Oh LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation of it.

7 Remember, Oh Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Raze it, raze it, even to its foundations. 7 Remember, Oh Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Raze it, raze it, even to its foundations.

8 Oh daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewards you as you have served us.

8 Wretched daughter of Babylon! blessed shall he be who shall reward you as you have rewarded us. 8 Wretched daughter of Babylon! blessed shall he be who shall reward you as you have rewarded us.

9 Happy shall he be, who takes and dashes your little ones against the stones.

9 Blessed shall he be who shall seize and dash your infants against the rock. 9 Blessed shall he be who shall seize and dash your infants against the rock.
