Rehoboam Reigns over Judah and Builds Cities
1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin 100 and 80,000 chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israēl, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
וַיָּבֹ֣א רְחַבְעָם֮ יְרוּשָׁלִַם֒ וַיַּקְהֵל֩ אֶת־בֵּ֨ית יְהוּדָ֜ה וּבִנְיָמִ֗ן מֵאָ֨ה וּשְׁמֹונִ֥ים אֶ֛לֶף בָּח֖וּר עֹשֵׂ֣ה מִלְחָמָ֑ה לְהִלָּחֵם֙ עִם־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְהָשִׁ֥יב אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה לִרְחַבְעָֽם׃

וַיְחַזֵּ֖ק אֶת־הַמְּצֻרֹ֑ות וַיִּתֵּ֤ן בָּהֶם֙ נְגִידִ֔ים וְאֹצְרֹ֥ות מַאֲכָ֖ל וְשֶׁ֥מֶן וָיָֽיִן׃
| 11 καὶ ὠχύρωσεν αὐτὰς τείχεσιν καὶ ἔδωκεν ἐν αὐταῖς ἡγουμένους καὶ παραθέσεις βρωμάτων, ἔλαιον καὶ οἶνον, | 11 καὶ ὠχύρωσεν αὐτὰς τειχήρεις καὶ ἔδωκεν ἐν αὐταῖς ἡγουμένους καὶ παραθέματος βρωμάτων, ἔλαιον καὶ οἶνον, |

| 12 κατὰ πόλιν καὶ κατὰ πόλιν θυρεοὺς καὶ δόρατα, καὶ κατίσχυσεν αὐτὰς εἰς πλῆθος σφόδρα· καὶ ἦσαν αὐτῷ Ἰούδα καὶ Βενιαμίν. | 12 κατὰ πόλιν καὶ κατὰ πόλιν θυρεοὺς καὶ δόρατα, καὶ κατίσχυσεν αὐτὰς εἰς πλῆθος σφόδρα· καὶ ἦσαν αὐτῷ Ἰούδα καὶ Βενιαμίν. |

וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הִֽתְיַצְּב֥וּ עָלָ֖יו מִכָּל־גְּבוּלָֽם׃

Jeroboam Appoints False Priests
14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the LORD:
כִּֽי־עָזְב֣וּ הַלְוִיִּ֗ם אֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶם֙ וַאֲחֻזָּתָ֔ם וַיֵּלְכ֥וּ לִיהוּדָ֖ה וְלִֽירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם כִּֽי־הִזְנִיחָ֤ם יָֽרָבְעָם֙ וּבָנָ֔יו מִכַּהֵ֖ן לַיהוָֽה׃
| 14 ὅτι ἐγκατέλιπον οἱ Λευῖται τὰ σκηνώματα τῆς κατασχέσεως αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν πρὸς Ἰούδαν εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ, ὅτι ἐξέβαλεν αὐτοὺς Ἰεροβοὰμ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ τοῦ μὴ λειτουργεῖν κυρίῳ | 14 ὅτι ἐγκατέλιπον οἱ Λευῖται τὰ σκηνώματα τῆς κατασχέσεως αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν πρὸς Ἰούδα εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ, ὅτι ἐξέβαλεν αὐτοὺς Ἱεροβοὰμ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ μὴ λειτουργεῖν Κυρίῳ |

16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israēl such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israēl came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.
וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם מִכֹּל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַנֹּֽתְנִים֙ אֶת־לְבָבָ֔ם לְבַקֵּ֕שׁ אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בָּ֚אוּ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם לִזְבֹּ֕וחַ לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י אֲבֹותֵיהֶֽם׃
| 16 καὶ ἐξέβαλεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ, οἳ ἔδωκαν καρδίαν αὐτῶν τοῦ ζητῆσαι κύριον θεὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ θῦσαι κυρίῳ θεῷ τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν | 16 καὶ ἐξέβαλεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ, οἳ ἔδωκαν καρδίαν αὐτῶν τοῦ ζητῆσαι Κύριον Θεὸν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ θῦσαι Κυρίῳ Θεῷ τῶν πατέρων αὐτῶν |

Rehoboam’s Family
18 And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
וַיִּֽקַּֽח־לֹ֤ו רְחַבְעָם֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה אֶת־מָ֣חֲלַ֔ת בֶּן־דָּוִ֑יד אֲבִיהַ֕יִל בַּת־אֱלִיאָ֖ב בֶּן־יִשָֽׁי׃
| 18 καὶ ἔλαβεν ἑαυτῷ Ῥοβοὰμ γυναῖκα τὴν Μολλὰθ θυγατέρα Ἰεριμοὺθ υἱοῦ Δαυίδ, Ἀβαίαν θυγατέρα Ἐλιὰβ τοῦ Ἰεσσαί, | 18 καὶ ἔλαβεν ἑαυτῷ Ῥοβοὰμ γυναῖκα τὴν Μολλὰθ θυγατέρα Ἱεριμοὺθ υἱοῦ Δαυὶδ καὶ Ἀβιγαίαν θυγατέρα Ἑλιὰβ τοῦ Ἰεσσαί, |

21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took 18 wives, and 60 concubines; and fathered 28 sons, and 60 daughters.)
וַיֶּאֱהַ֨ב רְחַבְעָ֜ם אֶת־מַעֲכָ֣ה בַת־אַבְשָׁלֹ֗ום מִכָּל־נָשָׁיו֙ וּפִ֣ילַגְשָׁ֔יו כִּ֠י נָשִׁ֤ים שְׁמֹונֶֽה־עֶשְׂרֵה֙ נָשָׂ֔א וּפִֽילַגְשִׁ֖ים שִׁשִּׁ֑ים וַיֹּ֗ולֶד עֶשְׂרִ֧ים וּשְׁמֹונָ֛ה בָּנִ֖ים וְשִׁשִּׁ֥ים בָּנֹֽות׃

22 And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brothers: for he thought to make him king.
וַיַּֽעֲמֵ֨ד לָרֹ֧אשׁ רְחַבְעָ֛ם אֶת־אֲבִיָּ֥ה בֶֽן־מַעֲכָ֖ה לְנָגִ֣יד בְּאֶחָ֑יו כִּ֖י לְהַמְלִיכֹֽו׃

23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
