The Second Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians parallel Greek texts

Chapter 2

NASTextRec
But I determined this for my own sake, that I would not come to you in sorrow again. But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
2:2 εἰ γὰρ ἐγὼ λυπῶ ὑμᾶς, καὶ τίς εὐφραίνων με εἰ μὴ λυπούμενος ἐξ ἐμοῦ; 2 εἰ γὰρ ἐγὼ λυπῶ ὑμᾶς, καὶ τίς ἐστιν εὐφραίνων με, εἰ μὴ λυπούμενος ἐξ ἐμοῦ;
For if I cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful? For if I make you sorry, who is he then that makes me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
This is the very thing I wrote you, so that when I came, I would not have sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy would be the joy of you all. And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears; not so that you would be made sorrowful, but that you might know the love which I have especially for you. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow not to me, but in some degree—in order not to say too much—to all of you. But if any have caused grief, he has not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
Sufficient for such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the majority, Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
so that on the contrary you should rather forgive and comfort him, otherwise such a one might be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. So that contrariwise you ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
Wherefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him. Wherefore I beseech you that you would confirm your love toward him.
For to this end also I wrote, so that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things. For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether you be obedient in all things.
But one whom you forgive anything, I forgive also; for indeed what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, I did it for your sakes in the presence of Christ, To whom you forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes. Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Now when I came to Troas for the gospel of Christ and when a door was opened for me in the Lord, Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
I had no rest for my spirit, not finding Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I went on to Macedonia. I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of him in every place. Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and makes manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
καὶ πρὸς ταῦτα τίς ἱκανός;
καὶ πρὸς ταῦτα τίς ἱκανός;
to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God. For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
