Moses Given Powers

1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they won’t believe me, nor listen to my voice: for they will say, The LORD hasn’t appeared unto you.

τί ἐρῶ πρὸς αὐτούς;
τί ἐρῶ πρὸς αὐτούς;
1 Then Mōysēs answered and said, “If then they should not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‛God has not appeared to you!’ what shall I say to them?” 1 Then Mōysēs answered and said, “If they should not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‛God has not appeared to you!’ what shall I say to them?”

2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in your hand? And he said, A rod.

2 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ κύριος τί τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ ἐν τῇ χειρί σου;
2 εἶπε δὲ αὐτῷ Κύριος· τί τοῦτό ἔστι τὸ ἐν τῇ χειρί· σου;
2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is this in your hand?” And he said, “A rod.” 2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is this in your hand?” And he said, “A rod.”

3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

3 And he said, “Throw it on the ground!” And he threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and Mōysēs fled from it. 3 And he said, “Throw it on the ground!” And he threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and Mōysēs fled from it.

4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth your hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

4 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, “Stretch out your hand, and seize the tail!” Then he stretched out his hand and seized the tail, and it became a rod in his hand, 4 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, “Stretch out your hand, and seize the tail!” Then he stretched out his hand and seized the tail, and it became a rod in his hand,

5 That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared unto you.

5 in order that they may believe you, that the Lord, the God of their fathers, God of Habraam and God of Isaak and God of Jakōb, has appeared to you. 5 in order that they may believe you, that the Lord, the God of their fathers, God of Habraam and God of Isaak and God of Jakōb, has appeared to you.

6 And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now your hand into your bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.

7 And he said, Put your hand into your bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

8 And it shall come to pass, if they won’t believe you, neither listen to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

8 Now if they should not believe you or listen to the voice of the first sign, they will believe you because of the voice of the last sign. 8 Now if they should not believe you or listen to the voice of the first sign, they will believe you because of the voice of the last sign.

9 And it shall come to pass, if they won’t believe also these two signs, neither listen to your voice, that you shall take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which you take out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

9 And it will be if they should not believe you for these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some of the river’s water and pour it on the dry ground, and the water, whatever you take from the river, will be blood on the dry ground. 9 And it will be if they should not believe you for these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some of the river’s water and pour it on the dry ground, and the water, whatever you take from the river, will be blood on the dry ground.

10 And Moses said unto the LORD, Oh my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before, nor since you have spoken unto your servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

10 But Mōysēs said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I am incompetent before yesterday or the third day or since you began to speak to your attendant. I am weak-voiced and slow-tongued.” 10 But Mōysēs said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I am incompetent before yesterday or the third day or since you began to speak to your attendant. I am weak-voiced and slow-tongued.”

11 And the LORD said unto him, Who has made man’s mouth? or who makes the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? haven’t I the LORD?

βλέποντα καὶ τυφλόν;
οὐκ ἐγὼ θεός;
βλέποντα καὶ τυφλόν;
οὐκ ἐγὼ Θεός;
11 Then the Lord said to Mōysēs, “Who gave a mouth to a person, and who made him deaf and mute, seeing and blind? Am I not God? 11 Then the Lord said to Mōysēs, “Who gave a mouth to a person, and who made him deaf and mute, seeing and blind? Am I not God?

12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall say.

12 And now go, and I will open your mouth and teach you what you are going to speak.” 12 And now go, and I will open your mouth and teach you what you are going to speak.”

13 And he said, Oh my Lord, send, I pray you, by the hand of him whom you will send.

13 And Mōysēs said, “Please, Lord, appoint another able person, whom you will send.” 13 And Mōysēs said, “Please, Lord, appoint another able person, whom you will send.”

Aaron to Be Moses’ Mouthpiece

14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he comes forth to meet you: and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

14 καὶ θυμωθεὶς ὀργῇ κύριος ἐπὶ Μωυσῆν εἶπεν οὐκ ἰδοὺ Ἀαρὼν ἀδελφός σου Λευίτης;
14 And after he was enraged with anger towards Mōysēs, the Lord said, “Look! isn’t Aaron your brother, the Levite? I know that when he speaks, he will speak for you. And Look! he will come out to meet you, and after he sees you, he will be glad in himself. 14 And after he was enraged with anger towards Mōysēs, the Lord said, “Look! isn’t Aaron your brother, the Levite? I know that when he speaks, he will speak for you. And Look! he will come out to meet you, and after he sees you, he will be glad in himself.

15 And you shall speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do.

15 And you shall speak to him and put my words in his mouth. And I will open your mouth and his mouth and will teach you what you shall do. 15 And you shall speak to him and put my words in his mouth. And I will open your mouth and his mouth and will teach you what you shall do.

16 And he shall be your spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to you instead of a mouth, and you shall be to him instead of God.

16 And he shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be to him in the things pertaining to God. 16 And he shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be to him in the things pertaining to God.

17 And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do signs.

17 And this rod, that was turned into a snake, you shall take in your hand, with which you shall perform the signs with it.” 17 And this rod, that was turned into a snake, you shall take in your hand, with which you shall perform the signs with it.”

18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray you, and return unto my brothers which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

18 Now Mōysēs went and returned to Jothor, his father-in-law, and said, “I shall go and return to my brothers in Aigypt and see if they are still living.” And Jothor said to Mōysēs, “Go in health.” 18 Now Mōysēs went and returned to Jothor, his father-in-law, and said, “I shall go and return to my brothers in Aigypt and see if they are still living.” And Jothor said to Mōysēs, “Go in health.” And in those days after some time, the king of Egypt died.

19 And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought your life.

19 And in those days after some time, the king of Egypt died. And the Lord said to Moses in Madiam, “Go, return into Aigypt, for all those who were seeking your soul are dead.” 19 And the Lord said to Moses in Madiam, “Go, return into Aigypt, for all those who were seeking your soul are dead.”

20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

21 And the LORD said unto Moses, When you go to return into Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in your hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

21 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, “As you go and return to Aigypt, look at all the wonders which I put in your hands, you shall perform them before Pharaō. But I will harden his heart, and he will not send the people away. 21 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, “As you go and return to Aigypt, look at all the wonders which I put in your hands, you shall perform them before Pharaō. But I will harden his heart, and he will not send the people away.

22 And you shall say unto Pharaoh, Thus says the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

22 Then you shall say to Pharaō, ‛This is what the Lord says, “My firstborn son is Israēl.” 22 Then you shall say to Pharaō, ‛This is what the Lord says, “My firstborn son is Israēl.”

23 And I say unto you, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if you refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay your son, even your firstborn.

24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.

31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
