Isaac on Altar

1 And it came to pass after these things, that God tempted Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

1 And it happened after these things that God tested Habraam, and said to him, “Habraam, Habraam;” and he said, “Yes! I am here.” 1 And it happened after these things that God tested Habraam, and said to him, “Habraam, Habraam;” and he said, “Yes! I am here.”

2 And he said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and get into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell you of.

2 And he said, “Take your beloved son, whom you have loved – Isaak, and go into the high land, and offer him there for a whole-burnt-offering upon one of the mountains of which I told you.” 2 And he said, “Take your beloved son, whom you have loved – Isaak, and go into the high land, and offer him there for a whole-burnt-offering upon one of the mountains of which I told you.”

3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and cut the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

3 After arising in the morning, Habraam saddled his donkey. He took with him two servants, and Isaak his son. After splitting wood for a whole-burnt-offering, he arose and departed. And he went to the place which God told him. 3 After arising in the morning, Habraam saddled his donkey. He took with him two servants, and Isaak his son. After splitting wood for a whole-burnt-offering, he arose and departed. In three days, he came to the place which God told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

4 After three days, Habraam looked up with his eyes and saw the place in the distance. 4 When Habraam lifted up his eyes, he saw the place in the distance.

5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Stay here with the donkey; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you,

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

6 And Habraam took the wood of the whole-burnt-offering, and put it on Isaak his son, and he took both the fire and knife by hand, and the two went together. 6 And Habraam took the wood of the whole-burnt-offering, and put it on Isaak his son, and he took both the fire and knife by hand, and the two went together.

7 And Isaac spoke unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

δὲ εἶπεν, τί ἐστιν, τέκνον;
λέγων, ἰδοὺ τὸ πῦρ καὶ τὰ ξύλα· ποῦ ἐστιν τὸ πρόβατον τὸ εἰς ὁλοκάρπωσιν;
δὲ εἶπε· τί ἔστι, τέκνον;
εἶπε δέ· ἰδοὺ τὸ πῦρ καὶ τὰ ξύλα· ποῦ ἔστι τὸ πρόβατον τὸ εἰς ὁλοκάρπωσιν;
7 And Isaak said to Habraam his father, “Father.” And he said, “What is it, child?” And he said, “Behold the fire and the wood, where is the sheep for a whole-burnt-offering?” 7 And Isaak said to Habraam his father, “Father.” And he said, “What is it, child?” And he said, “Behold the fire and the wood, where is the sheep for a whole-burnt-offering?”

8 And Abraham said, My son, God himself will provide a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

8 And Habraam said, “God will see to a sheep for a whole-burnt-offering for himself, child.” And after they both went together, 8 And Habraam said, “God will see to a sheep for a whole-burnt-offering for himself, child.” And after they both went together,

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

11 And an angel of the Lord called him out of the sky, and said to him, “Habraam, Habraam.” And he said, “Yes! I am here.” 11 And an angel of the Lord called him out of the sky, and said, “Habraam, Habraam.” And he said, “Yes! I am here.”

12 And he said, Don’t lay your hand upon the lad, neither do anything unto him: for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me.

12 And he said, “Don’t lay your hand upon the child, nor do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, and for my sake you have not spared your beloved son.” 12 And he said, “Don’t lay your hand upon the child, nor do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, and for my sake you have not spared your beloved son.”

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

14 And Habraam called the name of that place: "The Lord saw"; in order that they might say today, In the mount, the Lord was seen. 14 And Habraam called the name of that place: "The Lord saw"; in order that they might say today, In the mount, the Lord was seen.

15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,

15 And an angel of the Lord called Habraam the second time out of the sky, 15 And an angel of the Lord called Habraam the second time out of the sky, saying,

16 And said, By myself have I sworn, says the LORD, for because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son:

16 saying, “I have solemnly promised by myself, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and on my account you have not spared your beloved son,” 16 “I have solemnly promised by myself,” says the Lord, “because you have done this thing, and on my account you have not spared your beloved son,”

17 That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

17 surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and as the sand which is by the sea shore, and your offspring shall inherit the cities of their enemies. 17 surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and as the sand which is by the sea shore, and your offspring shall inherit the cities of their enemies.

18 And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed my voice.

18 And in your offspring shall all the nations of the land be blessed, because you listened to my voice. 18 And in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have listened to my voice.

19 So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beer-sheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beer-sheba.

20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she has also given birth to children unto your brother Nahor;

23 And Bethuel fathered Rebekah: these eight Milcah did give birth unto Nahor, Abraham’s brother.

23 and Bathouēl fathered Rhebekka. these are eight sons, which Melcha gave birth unto Nachōr the brother of Habraam. 23 and Bathouēl fathered Rhebekka. these are eight sons, which Melcha gave birth unto Nachōr the brother of Habraam.
