Chapter 30

AlexandrinusVaticanus

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

1 The word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, saying, 1 The word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, saying,

2 Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write you all the words that I have spoken unto you in a book.

2 Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book. 2 Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book.

3 For, lo, the days come, says the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, says the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

3 For, behold, the days come, says the Lord, when I will bring back the captivity of my people Israel and Juda, said the Lord: and I will bring them back to the land which I gave to their fathers, and they shall be lords of it. 3 For, behold, the days come, says the Lord, when I will bring back the captivity of my people Israel and Juda, said the Lord: and I will bring them back to the land which I gave to their fathers, and they shall be lords of it.

4 And these are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

4 And these are the words which the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Juda; 4 And these are the words which the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Juda;

5 For thus says the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

5 Thus said the Lord: You shall hear a sound of fear, there is fear, and there is not peace. 5 Thus said the Lord: You shall hear a sound of fear, there is fear, and there is not peace.

6 Ask you now, and see whether a man does travail with child? therefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

6 Enquire, and see if a male has born a child? and ask concerning the fear, in which they shall hold their loins, and look for safety: for I have seen every man, and his hands are on his loins; their faces are turned to paleness. 6 Enquire, and see if a male has born a child? and ask concerning the fear, in which they shall hold their loins, and look for safety: for I have seen every man, and his hands are on his loins; their faces are turned to paleness.

7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

7 For that day is great, and there is not such another; and it is a time of straitness to Jacob; but he shall be saved out of it. 7 For that day is great, and there is not such another; and it is a time of straitness to Jacob; but he shall be saved out of it.

8 For it shall come to pass in that day, says the LORD of armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:

9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

9 but they shall serve the Lord their God; and I will raise up to them David their king. 9 but they shall serve the Lord their God; and I will raise up to them David their king.

10 Therefore fear you not, Oh my servant Jacob, says the LORD; neither be dismayed, Oh Israel: for, lo, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.

11 For I am with you, says the LORD, to save you: though I make a full end of all nations to which I have scattered you, yet will I not make a full end of you: but I will correct you in measure, and won’t leave you altogether unpunished.

12 For thus says the LORD, Your bruise is incurable, and your wound is grievous.

12 Thus says the Lord; I have brought on you destruction; your stroke is painful. 12 Thus says the Lord; I have brought on you destruction; your stroke is painful.

13 There is none to plead your cause, that you may be bound up: you have no healing medicines.

13 There is none to judge your cause: you have been painfully treated for healing, there is no help for you. 13 There is none to judge your cause: you have been painfully treated for healing, there is no help for you.

14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they seek you not; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of your iniquity; because your sins were increased.

14 All your friends have forgotten you; they shall not ask about you at all, for I have smitten you with he stroke of an enemy, even severe correction: your sins have abounded above all your iniquity. 14 All your friends have forgotten you; they shall not ask about you at all, for I have smitten you with he stroke of an enemy, even severe correction: your sins have abounded above all your iniquity.

15 Why cry you for your affliction? your sorrow is incurable for the multitude of your iniquity: because your sins were increased, I have done these things unto you.

15 Your sins have abounded beyond the multitude of your iniquities, therefore they have done these things to you. 15 Your sins have abounded beyond the multitude of your iniquities, therefore they have done these things to you.

16 Therefore all they who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, everyone of them, shall go into captivity; and they who spoil you shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon you will I give for a prey.

18 Thus says the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwelling-places; and the city shall be built upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner of it.

18 Thus said the Lord; Behold, I will turn the captivity of Jacob, and will have pity upon his prisoners; and the city shall be built upon her hill, and the people shall settle after their manner. 18 Thus said the Lord; Behold, I will turn the captivity of Jacob, and will have pity upon his prisoners; and the city shall be built upon her hill, and the people shall settle after their manner.

19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
