1 Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall none of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

וְאִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל נִשְׁבַּ֥ע בַּמִּצְפָּ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר אִ֣ישׁ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ לֹא־יִתֵּ֥ן בִּתֹּ֛ו לְבִנְיָמִ֖ן לְאִשָּֽׁה׃

1 Καὶ ἀνὴρ Ἰσραὴλ ὤμοσεν ἐν Μασσηφὰ λέγων Ἀνὴρ ἐξ ἡμῶν οὐ δώσει τὴν θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ τῷ Βενιαμὶν εἰς γυναῖκα. 1 Καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ὤμοσαν ἐν Μασσηφὰ λέγοντες· Ἀνὴρ ἐξ ἡμῶν οὐ δώσει θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ τῷ Βενιαμὶν εἰς γυναῖκα.

2 And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

וַיָּבֹ֤א הָעָם֙ בֵּֽית־אֵ֔ל וַיֵּ֤שְׁבוּ שָׁם֙ עַד־הָעֶ֔רֶב לִפְנֵ֖י הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ קֹולָ֔ם וַיִּבְכּ֖וּ בְּכִ֥י גָדֹֽול׃

2 καὶ παρεγένοντο πᾶς ὁ λαὸς εἰς Μασσηφὰ καὶ Βαιθὴλ καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐκεῖ ἕως ἑσπέρας ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐπῆραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν καὶ ἔκλαυσαν κλαυθμὸν μέγαν 2 καὶ ἦλθεν ὁ λαὸς εἰς Βαιθὴλ καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐκεῖ ἕως ἑσπέρας ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἦραν φωνὴν αὐτῶν καὶ ἔκλαυσαν κλαυθμὸν μέγαν

וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ לָמָ֗ה יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הָ֥יְתָה זֹ֖את בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְהִפָּקֵ֥ד הַיֹּ֛ום מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שֵׁ֥בֶט אֶחָֽד׃

3 καὶ εἶπαν Ἵνα τί,
κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραήλ,
ἐγενήθη αὕτη ἐν τῷ Ἰσραήλ,
τοῦ ἐπισκεπῆναι σήμερον ἐν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ φυλὴν μίαν; 		3 καὶ εἶπαν εἰς τί κύριε θεὲ Ἰσραήλ,
ἐγενήθη αὕτη τοῦ ἐπισκεπῆναι σήμερον ἀπὸ Ἰσραὴλ φυλὴν μίαν;
3 And they said, “O Lord, the God of Israēl, why has this come to be in Israēl, that today in Israēl one tribe should be inspected?” 3 And they said, “O Lord, God of Israēl, for what reason has this come to be that today from Israēl one tribe should be inspected?”

4 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

וַֽיְהִי֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣ימוּ הָעָ֔ם וַיִּבְנוּ־שָׁ֖ם מִזְבֵּ֑חַ וַיַּעֲל֥וּ עֹלֹ֖ות וּשְׁלָמִֽים׃

4 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ ἐπαύριον καὶ ὤρθρισεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον καὶ ἀνήνεγκαν ὁλοκαυτώματα σωτηρίου. 4 καὶ ἐγένετο τῇ ἐπαύριον καὶ ὤρθρισεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον,
καὶ ἀνήνεγκαν ὁλοκαυτώσεις καὶ τελείας.

5 And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that didn’t come up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him who didn’t come up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִ֠י אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹא־עָלָ֧ה בַקָּהָ֛ל מִכָּל־שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶל־יְהוָ֑ה כִּי֩ הַשְּׁבוּעָ֨ה הַגְּדֹולָ֜ה הָיְתָ֗ה לַ֠אֲשֶׁר לֹא־עָלָ֨ה אֶל־יְהוָ֧ה הַמִּצְפָּ֛ה לֵאמֹ֖ר מֹ֥ות יוּמָֽת׃

5 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ Τίς ὁ μὴ ἀναβὰς ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ ἐκ πασῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς κύριον;
ὅτι ὅρκος μέγας ἦν τῷ μὴ ἀναβάντι πρὸς κύριον εἰς Μασσηφὰ λέγοντες Θανάτῳ ἀποθανεῖται. 		5 καὶ εἶπον οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραήλ· τίς οὐκ ἀνέβη ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ ἀπὸ πασῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς κύριον;
ὅτι ὁ ὅρκος μέγας ἦν τοῖς οὐκ ἀναβεβηκόσιν πρὸς κύριον εἰς Μασσηφὰ λέγοντες· θανάτῳ θανατωθήσεται
5 And the sons of Israēl said, “Who is the one who didn’t come up in the assembly to the Lord, out of all the tribes of Israēl?” For there was a solemn oath against the one who didn’t come up to the Lord to Massēfa, saying, “He will die by death.” 5 And the sons of Israēl said, “Who didn’t come up in the assembly to the Lord, from all the tribes of Israēl?” For the oath was solemn for those who had not come up to the Lord to Massēfa, saying, “He will be put to death by death.”

6 And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

וַיִּנָּֽחֲמוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶל־בִּנְיָמִ֖ן אָחִ֑יו וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ נִגְדַּ֥ע הַיֹּ֛ום שֵׁ֥בֶט אֶחָ֖ד מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

6 καὶ παρεκλήθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ περὶ Βενιαμὶν τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπαν Ἀφῄρηται σήμερον φυλὴ μία ἐξ Ἰσραήλ· 6 καὶ παρεκλήθησαν.
οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Βενιαμὶν ἀδελφὸν αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπαν· ἐξεκόπη σήμερον φυλὴ μία ἀπὸ Ἰσραήλ·
6 And the sons of Israēl were comforted concerning Benjamin their brother, and they said, “One tribe has been taken away from Israēl this day. 6 And the sons of Israēl were comforted with regard to Benjamin their brother, and they said, “One tribe has been cut off from Israēl this day.

7 How shall we do for wives for those who remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we won’t give them of our daughters to wives?

מַה־נַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה לָהֶ֛ם לַנֹּותָרִ֖ים לְנָשִׁ֑ים וַאֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙ נִשְׁבַּ֣עְנוּ בַֽיהוָ֔ה לְבִלְתִּ֛י תֵּת־לָהֶ֥ם מִבְּנֹותֵ֖ינוּ לְנָשִֽׁים׃

7 τί ποιήσωμεν αὐτοῖς τοῖς ὑπολειφθεῖσιν εἰς γυναῖκας;
καὶ ἡμεῖς ὠμόσαμεν ἐν κυρίῳ τοῦ μὴ δοῦναι αὐτοῖς ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων ἡμῶν εἰς γυναῖκας. 		7 τί ποιήσωμεν αὐτοῖς τοῖς περισσοῖς τοῖς ὑπολειφθεῖσιν εἰς γυναῖκας;
καὶ ἡμεῖς ὠμόσαμεν ἐν κυρίῳ τοῦ μὴ δοῦναι αὐτοῖς ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων ἡμῶν εἰς γυναῖκας.
7 What are we to do for wives for them that are left? And we swore by the Lord that we would not give them any of our daughters for wives.” 7 What are we to do for wives for them that remain, those who are left? And we swore by the Lord that we would not give them any of our daughters for wives.”

8 And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that didn’t come up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מִ֗י אֶחָד֙ מִשִּׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹֽא־עָלָ֥ה אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה הַמִּצְפָּ֑ה וְ֠הִנֵּה לֹ֣א בָא־אִ֧ישׁ אֶל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֛ה מִיָּבֵ֥ישׁ גִּלְעָ֖ד אֶל־הַקָּהָֽל׃

8 καὶ εἶπαν Τίς μία τῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ,
ἥτις οὐκ ἀνέβη πρὸς κύριον εἰς Μασσηφά;
καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἦλθεν ἀνὴρ εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν ἀπὸ Ἰαβὶς Γαλαὰδ εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν. 		8 καὶ εἶπαν· τίς εἷς ἀπὸ φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ,
ὃς οὐκ ἀνέβη πρὸς κύριον εἰς Μασσηφά;
καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἦλθεν ἀνὴρ εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν ἀπὸ Ἰαβὶς Γαλαὰδ εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν.
8 And they said, “What one of the tribes of Israēl is there which didn’t come up to the Lord to Massēfa?” And look! a man didn’t come from Jabis Galaad to the camp, to the assembly. 8 And they said, “What one from the tribes of Israēl is there who didn’t come up to the Lord to Massēfa?” And look! a man didn’t come from Jabis Galaad to the camp, to the assembly.

9 For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.

וַיִּתְפָּקֵ֖ד הָעָ֑ם וְהִנֵּ֤ה אֵֽין־שָׁם֙ אִ֔ישׁ מִיֹּושְׁבֵ֖י יָבֵ֥שׁ גִּלְעָֽד׃

9 καὶ ἐπεσκέπη ὁ λαός,
καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκεῖ ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τῶν κατοικούντων Ἰαβὶς Γαλαάδ. 		9 καὶ ἐπεσκέπη ὁ λαός,
καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ οἰκούντων Ἰαβὶς Γαλαάδ.

10 And the congregation sent to that place 12,000 men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ־שָׁ֣ם הָעֵדָ֗ה שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂ֥ר אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ מִבְּנֵ֣י הֶחָ֑יִל וַיְצַוּ֨וּ אֹותָ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר לְ֠כוּ וְהִכִּיתֶ֞ם אֶת־יֹושְׁבֵ֨י יָבֵ֤שׁ גִּלְעָד֙ לְפִי־חֶ֔רֶב וְהַנָּשִׁ֖ים וְהַטָּֽף׃

10 καὶ ἀπέστειλαν ἐκεῖ ἡ συναγωγὴ δώδεκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ ἐνετείλαντο αὐτοῖς λέγοντες Πορεύθητε καὶ πατάξατε πάντας τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Ἰαβὶς Γαλαὰδ ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας καὶ τὸν λαόν. 10 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἐκεῖ ἡ συναγωγὴ δώδεκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἀπὸ υἱῶν τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ ἐνετείλαντο αὐτοῖς λέγοντες· πορεύεσθε καὶ πατάξατε τοὺς οἰκοῦντας Ἰαβὶς Γαλαὰδ ἐν στόματι ῥομφαίας.

11 καὶ οὗτος ὁ λόγος,
ὃν ποιήσετε· πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν καὶ πᾶσαν γυναῖκα γινώσκουσαν κοίτην ἄρσενος ἀναθεματιεῖτε. 		11 καὶ τοῦτο ποιήσετε· πᾶν ἄρσεν καὶ πᾶσαν γυναῖκα εἰδυῖαν κοίτην ἄρσενος ἀναθεματιεῖτε,
τὰς δὲ παρθένους περιποιήσεσθε.
καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως.
11 And this is the word that you shall do: everything male and every woman who is familiar with sexual intercourse with a male you shall anathematize.” 11 And this is what you will do: everything male and every woman who knows intercourse with a male you shall anathematize, but keep the virgins for yourselves.” And they did so.

12 And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead 400 young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

וַֽיִּמְצְא֞וּ מִיֹּושְׁבֵ֣י ׀ יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֗ד אַרְבַּ֤ע מֵאֹות֙ נַעֲרָ֣ה בְתוּלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־יָדְעָ֛ה אִ֖ישׁ לְמִשְׁכַּ֣ב זָכָ֑ר וַיָּבִ֨יאוּ אֹותָ֤ם אֶל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ שִׁלֹ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃

12 καὶ εὗρον ἀπὸ τῶν κατοικούντων Ἰαβὶς Γαλαὰδ τετρακοσίας νεάνιδας παρθένους,
αἳ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ἄνδρα εἰς κοίτην ἄρσενος,
καὶ ἦγον αὐτὰς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν εἰς Σηλώ,
ἥ ἐστιν ἐν γῇ Χαναάν. 		12 καὶ εὗρον ἀπὸ οἰκούντων Ἰαβὶς Γαλαὰδ τετρακοσίας νεάνιδας παρθένους,
αἵτινες οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ἄνδρα εἰς κοίτην ἄρσενος,
καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὰς εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν εἰς Σηλὼν τὴν ἐν γῇ Χαναάν.

וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ כָּל־הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה וַֽיְדַבְּרוּ֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּסֶ֣לַע רִמֹּ֑ון וַיִּקְרְא֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם שָׁלֹֽום׃

13 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ καὶ ἐλάλησαν πρὸς Βενιαμὶν τὸν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ Ῥεμμὼν καὶ ἐκάλεσαν αὐτοὺς εἰς εἰρήνην. 13 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ καὶ ἐλάλησαν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Βενιαμὶν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ Ῥεμμὼν καὶ ἐκάλεσαν αὐτοὺς εἰς εἰρήνην.

14 καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν Βενιαμὶν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ,
καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτοῖς τὰς γυναῖκας,
αἵτινες ἦσαν ἐκ τῶν γυναικῶν Ἰαβὶς Γαλαάδ· καὶ ἤρεσεν αὐτοῖς οὕτως. 		14 καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν Βενιαμὶν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ,
καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτοῖς οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ τὰς γυναῖκας,
ἃς ἐζωοποίησαν ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων Ἰαβὶς Γαλαάδ· καὶ ἤρεσεν αὐτοῖς οὕτως.

15 And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

וְהָעָ֥ם נִחָ֖ם לְבִנְיָמִ֑ן כִּֽי־עָשָׂ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה פֶּ֖רֶץ בְּשִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

15 Καὶ ὁ λαὸς παρεκλήθη τῷ Βενιαμίν,
ὅτι ἐποίησεν κύριος διακοπὴν ἐν ταῖς φυλαῖς Ἰσραήλ. 		15 Καὶ ὁ λαὸς παρεκλήθη ἐπὶ τῷ Βενιαμίν,

16 Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for those who remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

וַיֹּֽאמְר֨וּ זִקְנֵ֣י הָעֵדָ֔ה מַה־נַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה לַנֹּותָרִ֖ים לְנָשִׁ֑ים כִּֽי־נִשְׁמְדָ֥ה מִבִּנְיָמִ֖ן אִשָּֽׁה׃

16 καὶ εἶπαν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τῆς συναγωγῆς Τί ποιήσωμεν τοῖς ἐπιλοίποις εἰς γυναῖκας;
ὅτι ἠφάνισται ἐκ τοῦ Βενιαμὶν γυνή. 		16 καὶ εἶπον οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τῆς συναγωγῆς· τί ποιήσωμεν τοῖς περισσοῖς εἰς γυναῖκας;
ὅτι ἠφανίσθη ἀπὸ Βενιαμὶν γυνή.
16 And the elders of the assembly said, “What are we to do for wives for those who are left, since a woman has disappeared from Benjamin?” 16 And the elders of the assembly said, “What are we to do for wives for those who are left over, since a woman disappeared from Benjamin?”

17 And they said, There must be an inheritance for those who be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe isn’t destroyed out of Israel.

וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ יְרֻשַּׁ֥ת פְּלֵיטָ֖ה לְבִנְיָמִ֑ן וְלֹֽא־יִמָּחֶ֥ה שֵׁ֖בֶט מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

17 καὶ εἶπαν Κληρονομία διασεσῳσμένη τῷ Βενιαμίν,
καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐξαλειφθῇ φυλὴ ἐξ Ἰσραήλ· 		17 καὶ εἶπαν· Κληρονομία διασῳζομένων τῷ Βενιαμίν,
καὶ οὐκ ἐξαλειφθήσεται φυλὴ ἀπὸ Ἰσραήλ·
17 And they said, “An inheritance has survived for Benjamin, and a tribe will not be blotted out from Israēl. 17 And they said, “There is an inheritance of survivors for Benjamin, and a tribe will not be blotted out from Israēl.

18 However we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he who gives a wife to Benjamin.

וַאֲנַ֗חְנוּ לֹ֥א נוּכַ֛ל לָתֵת־לָהֶ֥ם נָשִׁ֖ים מִבְּנֹותֵ֑ינוּ כִּֽי־נִשְׁבְּע֤וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אָר֕וּר נֹתֵ֥ן אִשָּׁ֖ה לְבִנְיָמִֽן׃

18 καὶ ἡμεῖς οὐ δυνησόμεθα δοῦναι αὐτοῖς γυναῖκας ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων ἡμῶν,
ὅτι ὠμόσαμεν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ λέγοντες Ἐπικατάρατος ὁ διδοὺς γυναῖκα τῷ Βενιαμίν. 		18 ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐ δυνησόμεθα δοῦναι αὐτοῖς γυναῖκας ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων ἡμῶν,
ὅτι ὠμόσαμεν ἐν υἱοῖς Ἰσραὴλ λέγοντες· ἐπικατάρατος ὁ διδοὺς γυναῖκα τῷ Βενιαμίν.
18 And we will not be able to give them wives from among our daughters, because we, the sons of Israēl, swore, saying, ‘Cursed be the one who gives a wife to Benjamin.’ ” 18 For we will not be able to give them wives from among our daughters, because we swore among the sons of Israēl, saying, ‘Cursed be the one who gives a wife to Benjamin.’ ”

19 Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.

וַיֹּאמְר֡וּ הִנֵּה֩ חַג־יְהוָ֨ה בְּשִׁלֹ֜ו מִיָּמִ֣ים ׀ יָמִ֗ימָה אֲשֶׁ֞ר מִצְּפֹ֤ונָה לְבֵֽית־אֵל֙ מִזְרְחָ֣ה הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ לִמְסִלָּ֔ה הָעֹלָ֥ה מִבֵּֽית־אֵ֖ל שְׁכֶ֑מָה וּמִנֶּ֖גֶב לִלְבֹונָֽה׃

19 καὶ εἶπαν Ἑορτὴ τῷ κυρίῳ ἐν Σηλὼ ἀφ’ ἡμερῶν εἰς ἡμέρας,
ἥ ἐστιν ἀπὸ βορρᾶ τῆς Βαιθὴλ κατ’ ἀνατολὰς ἡλίου ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τῇ ἀναβαινούσῃ ἐκ Βαιθὴλ εἰς Σίκιμα καὶ ἀπὸ νότου τοῦ Λιβάνου τῆς Λεβωνά. 		19 καὶ εἶπαν· ἰδοὺ δὴ ἑορτὴ κυρίου ἐν Σηλὼν ἀφ’ ἡμερῶν εἰς ἡμέρας,
ἥ ἐστιν ἀπὸ βορρᾶ τῆς Βαιθὴλ κατ’ ἀνατολὰς ἡλίου ἐπὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ τῆς ἀναβαινούσης ἀπὸ Βαιθὴλ εἰς Συχὲμ καὶ ἀπὸ νότου τῆς Λεβωνά.
19 And they said, “There is a feast to the Lord at Sēlō from days to days, which is to the north of Baithēl, to the east, on the road that goes up from Baithēl to Sikima, and from the south of Lebanon of Lebōna.” 19 And they said, “Look please! there is a feast of the Lord at Sēlōn from days to days, which is to the north of Baithēl, to the east, by the road that goes up from Baithēl to Sychem, and to the south of Lebōna.”

20 Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

ֶת־בְּנֵ֥י בִנְיָמִ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר לְכ֖וּ וַאֲרַבְתֶּ֥ם בַּכְּרָמִֽים׃

20 καὶ ἐνετείλαντο τοῖς υἱοῖς Βενιαμὶν λέγοντες Διέλθατε καὶ ἐνεδρεύσατε ἐν τοῖς ἀμπελῶσιν· 20 καὶ ἐνετείλαντο τοῖς υἱοῖς Βενιαμὶν λέγοντες· πορεύεσθε ἐνεδρεύσατε ἐν τοῖς ἀμπελῶσιν·
20 And they commanded the sons of Benjamin, saying, “Spread out, and lie in wait in the vineyards. 20 And they commanded the sons of Benjamin, saying, “Go, lie in wait in the vineyards.

21 And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come you out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

וּרְאִיתֶ֗ם וְ֠הִנֵּה אִם־יֵ֨צְא֥וּ בְנֹות־שִׁילֹו֮ לָח֣וּל בַּמְּחֹלֹות֒ וִֽיצָאתֶם֙ מִן־הַכְּרָמִ֔ים וַחֲטַפְתֶּ֥ם לָכֶ֛ם אִ֥ישׁ אִשְׁתֹּ֖ו מִבְּנֹ֣ות שִׁילֹ֑ו וַהֲלַכְתֶּ֖ם אֶ֥רֶץ בִּנְיָמִֽן׃

21 καὶ ὄψεσθε καὶ ἰδοὺ ὡς ἄν ἐξέλθωσιν αἱ θυγατέρες τῶν κατοικούντων Σηλὼ ἐν Σηλὼ χορεῦσαι ἐν χοροῖς,
καὶ ἐξελεύσεσθε ἀπὸ τῶν ἀμπελώνων καὶ ἁρπάσετε ἀνὴρ ἑαυτῷ γυναῖκα ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων Σηλὼ καὶ ἀπελεύσεσθε εἰς γῆν Βενιαμίν. 		21 καὶ ὄψεσθε καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐὰν ἐξέλθωσιν αἱ θυγατέρες τῶν οἰκούντων Σηλὼν χορεύειν ἐν τοῖς χοροῖς,
καὶ ἐξελεύσεσθε ἐκ τῶν ἀμπελώνων καὶ ἁρπάσατε ἑαυτοῖς ἀνὴρ γυναῖκα,
ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων Σηλὼν καὶ πορεύεσθε εἰς γῆν Βενιαμίν.
21 And you will watch, and look! when the daughters of the inhabitants of Sēlō in Sēlō come out to dance in dances, you shall also come out from the vineyards and carry off, a man a wife for himself, from the daughters of Sēlō, and you shall go away to the land of Benjamin. 21 And you will watch, and look! if the daughters of the inhabitants of Sēlōn come out to dance in their dances, you shall also come out of the vineyards; then carry off for yourselves, a man a wife, from the daughters of Sēlōn, and you shall go to the land of Benjamin.

22 And it shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for you didn’t give unto them at this time, that you should be guilty.

וְהָיָ֡ה כִּֽי־יָבֹ֣אוּ אֲבֹותָם֩ אֹ֨ו אֲחֵיהֶ֜ם אֵלֵ֗ינוּ וְאָמַ֤רְנוּ אֲלֵיהֶם֙ חָנּ֣וּנוּ אֹותָ֔ם כִּ֣י לֹ֥א לָקַ֛חְנוּ אִ֥ישׁ אִשְׁתֹּ֖ו בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה כִּ֣י לֹ֥א אַתֶּ֛ם נְתַתֶּ֥ם לָהֶ֖ם כָּעֵ֥ת תֶּאְשָֽׁמוּ׃

22 καὶ ἔσται ὅταν ἔλθωσιν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν ἢ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν κρίνεσθαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς,
καὶ ἐροῦμεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἐλεήσατε αὐτούς,
ὅτι οὐκ ἔλαβον ἀνὴρ γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πολέμῳ· οὐ γὰρ ὑμεῖς δεδώκατε αὐτοῖς· κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν ἐπλημμελήσατε. 		22 καὶ ἔσται ὅταν ἔλθωσιν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν ἢ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν κρίνεσθαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς,
καὶ ἐροῦμεν αὐτοῖς· ἔλεος ποιήσατε ἡμῖν αὐτάς,
ὅτι οὐκ ἐλάβομεν ἀνὴρ γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ παρατάξει,
ὅτι οὐχ ὑμεῖς ἐδώκατε αὐτοῖς· ὡς καιρὸς πλημμελήσατε.
22 And it will be, when their fathers or their brothers come to dispute with you, that we will say to them, ‘Have mercy on them, because they didn’t capture a man his wife, in war. For it was not you who gave to them; you erred based on circumstance.’ ” 22 And it will be, when their fathers or their brothers come to dispute with you, that we will say to them, ‘Do us mercy concerning them, because we didn’t capture, a man his wife, in battle. For it is not you who have given them to them; err as circumstance dictates!’ ”

23 And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of those who danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־כֵן֙ בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן וַיִּשְׂא֤וּ נָשִׁים֙ לְמִסְפָּרָ֔ם מִן־הַמְּחֹלְלֹ֖ות אֲשֶׁ֣ר גָּזָ֑לוּ וַיֵּלְכ֗וּ וַיָּשׁ֙וּבוּ֙ אֶל־נַ֣חֲלָתָ֔ם וַיִּבְנוּ֙ אֶת־הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ בָּהֶֽם׃

23 καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμὶν καὶ ἔλαβον γυναῖκας κατὰ τὸν ἀριθμὸν αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν χορευουσῶν,
ἃς διήρπασαν· καὶ ἀπῆλθον καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν ἐπὶ τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτῶν καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν ἑαυτοῖς πόλεις καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐν αὐταῖς. 		23 καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμὶν καὶ ἔλαβον γυναῖκας εἰς ἀριθμὸν αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν χορευουσῶν,
ὧν ἥρπασαν· καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτῶν καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν τὰς πόλεις καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐν αὐταῖς.
23 And the sons of Benjamin did so, and they took wives according to their number from the dancers whom they abducted. And they went away and turned back to their inheritance, and they built cities for themselves and lived in them. 23 And the sons of Benjamin did so, and they took wives up to their number from the dancers whom they abducted. וַיִּתְהַלְּכ֨וּ מִשָּׁ֤ם בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔יא אִ֥ישׁ לְשִׁבְטֹ֖ו וּלְמִשְׁפַּחְתֹּ֑ו וַיֵּצְא֣וּ מִשָּׁ֔ם אִ֖ישׁ לְנַחֲלָתֹֽו׃

24 καὶ περιεπάτησαν ἐκεῖθεν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ,
ἀνὴρ εἰς τὴν φυλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς τὴν συγγένειαν αὐτοῦ,
καὶ ἀπῆλθον ἐκεῖθεν,
ἀνὴρ εἰς τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ.
– 		24 καὶ περιεπάτησαν ἐκεῖθεν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἀνὴρ εἰς φυλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς συγγένειαν αὐτοῦ,
καὶ ἐξῆλθον ἐκεῖθεν ἀνὴρ εἰς κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ.

בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם אֵ֥ין מֶ֖לֶךְ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אִ֛ישׁ הַיָּשָׁ֥ר בְּעֵינָ֖יו יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃

25 ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις οὐκ ἦν βασιλεὺς ἐν Ἰσραήλ· ἀνὴρ ἕκαστος τὸ εὐθὲς ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ ἐποίει. 25 ἐν δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις οὐκ ἦν βασιλεὺς ἐν Ἰσραήλ· ἀνὴρ τὸ εὐθὲς ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ ἐποίει.
