But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. | But speak you the things which become sound doctrine: |
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. | That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. |
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behaviour, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, | The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; |
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, | That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, |
to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonoured. | To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. |
Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; | Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. |
in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, | In all things showing yourself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, |
sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. | Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. |
Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, | Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; |
not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in every respect. | Not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. |
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, | For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, |
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, | Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; |
looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Christ Jesus, | Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; |
who gave himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds. | Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. |

These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you. | These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you. |
