God’s Promise and Warning

1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,

1 And it happened when Salōmōn had finished building the house of the Lord, and the king’s house, and all the work of Salōmōn, whatever he wished to perform, 1 And it happened when Salōmōn had finished building the house of the Lord, and the king’s house, and all the work of Salōmōn, whatever he wished to perform,

2 That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

2 that the Lord appeared to Salōmōn a second time, as he appeared in Gabaōn. 2 that the Lord appeared to Salōmōn a second time, as he appeared in Gabaōn.

3 And the LORD said unto him, I have heard your prayer and your supplication, that you have made before me: I have dedicated this house, which you have built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

3 And the Lord said to him, “I have heard the voice of your prayer, and your supplication which you made before me: I have done for you according to all your prayer: I have hallowed this house which you have built to put my name there forever, and my eyes and my heart shall be there always. 3 And the Lord said to him, “I have heard the voice of your prayer, and your supplication which you made before me: I have done for you according to all your prayer: I have hallowed this house which you have built to put my name there forever, and my eyes and my heart shall be there always.

4 And if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my judgments:

4 And if you will walk before me as David your father walked, in holiness of heart and uprightness, and so as to do according to all that I commanded him, and shall keep my ordinances and my commandments: 4 And if you will walk before me as David your father walked, in holiness of heart and uprightness, and so as to do according to all that I commanded him, and shall keep my ordinances and my commandments:

5 Then I will establish the throne of your kingdom upon Israēl forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, There shall not fail you a man upon the throne of Israēl.

5 then will I establish the throne of your kingdom in Israēl forever, as I spoke to David your father, saying, ‛There shall not fail you a man to rule in Israēl.’ 5 then will I establish the throne of your kingdom in Israēl forever, as I spoke to David your father, saying, ‛There shall not fail you a man to rule in Israēl.’

6 But if you shall at all turn from following me, you or your children, and won’t keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

7 Then will I cut off Israēl out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israēl shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

7 then will I cut off Israēl from the land which I have given them, and this house which I have consecrated to my name I will cast out of my sight; and Israēl shall be a desolation and a by-word to all nations. 7 then will I cut off Israēl from the land which I have given them, and this house which I have consecrated to my name I will cast out of my sight; and Israēl shall be a desolation and a by-word to all nations.

8 And at this house, which is high, everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?

9 And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore has the LORD brought upon them all this evil.

9 And men shall say, ‛Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought out their fathers from Aigypt, out of the house of bondage, and they attached themselves to strange gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore the Lord has brought this evil upon them.’ ” Then Salōmōn brought up the daughter of Pharaō out of the city of David into his house which he built for himself in those days.

Cities Given to Hiram

10 And it came to pass at the end of 20 years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king’s house,

10 During 20 years in which Salōmōn was building the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king, 10 During 20 years in which Salōmōn was building the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king,

11 (Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram 20 cities in the land of Galilee.

12 So Chiram departed from Tyre, and went into Galilee to see the cities which Salōmōn gave to him; and they pleased him not. And he said, 12 So Chiram departed from Tyre, and went into Galilee to see the cities which Salōmōn gave to him; and they pleased him not. And he said,

13 And he said, What cities are these which you have given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.

14 And Hiram sent to the king 60 talents of gold.

15 And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

17 And Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the nether,
