Eliphaz Blames Job
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
וַ֭יַּעַן אֱלִיפַ֥ז הַֽתֵּמָנִ֗י וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he who is wise may be profitable unto himself?
הַלְאֵ֥ל יִסְכָּן־גָּ֑בֶר כִּֽי־יִסְכֹּ֖ן עָלֵ֣ימֹו מַשְׂכִּֽיל׃

הַחֵ֣פֶץ לְ֭שַׁדַּי כִּ֣י תִצְדָּ֑ק וְאִם־בֶּ֝֗צַע כִּֽי־תַתֵּ֥ם דְּרָכֶֽיךָ׃

הֲלֹ֣א רָעָֽתְךָ֣ רַבָּ֑ה וְאֵֽין־קֵ֝֗ץ לַעֲוֹנֹתֶֽיךָ׃

6 For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
כִּֽי־תַחְבֹּ֣ל אַחֶ֣יךָ חִנָּ֑ם וּבִגְדֵ֖י עֲרוּמִּ֣ים תַּפְשִֽׁיט׃

אַ֭לְמָנֹות שִׁלַּ֣חְתָּ רֵיקָ֑ם וּזְרֹעֹ֖ות יְתֹמִ֣ים יְדֻכָּֽא׃

עַל־כֵּ֭ן סְבִיבֹותֶ֣יךָ פַחִ֑ים וִֽ֝יבַהֶלְךָ פַּ֣חַד פִּתְאֹֽם׃

אֹו־חֹ֥שֶׁךְ לֹֽא־תִרְאֶ֑ה וְֽשִׁפְעַת־מַ֥יִם תְּכַסֶּֽךָּ׃

| 12 μὴ οὐχὶ ὁ τὰ ὑψηλὰ ναίων ἐφορᾷ, τοὺς δὲ ὕβρει φερομένους ἐταπείνωσεν, | 12

13 And you say, How does God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circuit of heaven.

אֲשֶֽׁר־קֻמְּט֥וּ וְלֹא־עֵ֑ת נָ֝הָ֗ר יוּצַ֥ק יְסֹודָֽם׃

18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
וְה֤וּא מִלֵּ֣א בָתֵּיהֶ֣ם טֹ֑וב וַעֲצַ֥ת רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים רָ֣חֲקָה מֶֽנִּי׃

19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumes.
אִם־לֹ֣א נִכְחַ֣ד קִימָ֑נוּ וְ֝יִתְרָ֗ם אָ֣כְלָה אֵֽשׁ׃

21 Acquaint now yourself with him, and be at peace: by it good shall come unto you.

23 If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles.
ִם־תָּשׁ֣וּב עַד־שַׁ֭דַּי תִּבָּנֶ֑ה תַּרְחִ֥יק עַ֝וְלָ֗ה מֵאָהֳלֶֽךָ׃
| 23 ἐὰν δὲ ἐπιστραφῇς καὶ ταπεινώσῃς σεαυτὸν ἔναντι κυρίου, πόρρω ἐποίησας ἀπὸ διαίτης σου τὸ ἄδικον. | 23 ἐὰν δὲ ἐπιστραφῇς καὶ ταπεινώσῃς σεαυτὸν ἔναντι Κυρίου, πόρρω ἐποίησας ἀπὸ διαίτης σου ἄδικον. |

24 Then shall you lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
וְשִׁית־עַל־עָפָ֥ר בָּ֑צֶר וּבְצ֖וּר נְחָלִ֣ים אֹופִֽיר׃

25 Yes, the Almighty shall be your defence, and you shall have plenty of silver.

28 You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto you: and the light shall shine upon your ways.
וְֽתִגְזַר־אֹ֖ומֶר וְיָ֣קָם לָ֑ךְ וְעַל־דְּ֝רָכֶ֗יךָ נָ֣גַֽהּ אֹֽור׃

29 When men are cast down, then you shall say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
