Elihu Reproves Job
1 Elihu spoke moreover, and said,
וַיַּ֥עַן אֱלִיה֗וּ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

2 Thinkest you this to be right, that you said, My righteousness is more than God's?
הֲ֭זֹאת חָשַׁ֣בְתָּ לְמִשְׁפָּ֑ט אָ֝מַ֗רְתָּ צִדְקִ֥י מֵאֵֽל׃

3 For you said, What advantage will it be unto you? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?
כִּֽי־תֹ֭אמַר מַה־יִּסְכָּן־לָ֑ךְ מָֽה־אֹ֝עִ֗יל מֵֽחַטָּאתִֽי׃

אֲ֭נִי אֲשִֽׁיבְךָ֣ מִלִּ֑ין וְֽאֶת־רֵעֶ֥יךָ עִמָּֽךְ׃

הַבֵּ֣ט שָׁמַ֣יִם וּרְאֵ֑ה וְשׁ֥וּר שְׁ֝חָקִ֗ים גָּבְה֥וּ מִמֶּֽךָּ׃
| 5 ἀνάβλεψον εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ ἰδέ, κατάμαθε δὲ νέφη ὡς ὑψηλὰ ἀπὸ σου. | 5 ἀνάβλεψον εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ ἰδέ, κατάμαθε δὲ νέφη ὡς ὑψηλὰ ἀπὸ σοῦ. |

אִם־חָ֭טָאתָ מַה־תִּפְעָל־בֹּ֑ו וְרַבּ֥וּ פְ֝שָׁעֶ֗יךָ מַה־תַּעֲשֶׂה־לֹּֽו׃

אִם־צָ֭דַקְתָּ מַה־תִּתֶּן־לֹ֑ו אֹ֥ו מַה־מִיָּדְךָ֥ יִקָּֽח׃

8 Your wickedness may hurt a man as you are; and your righteousness may profit the son of man.
לְאִישׁ־כָּמֹ֥וךָ רִשְׁעֶ֑ךָ וּלְבֶן־אָ֝דָ֗ם צִדְקָתֶֽךָ׃
| 8 ἀνδρὶ τῷ ὁμοίῳ σου ἡ ἀσέβειά σου, καὶ υἱῷ ἀνθρώπου ἡ δικαιοσύνη σου. | 8 ἀνδρὶ τῷ ὁμοίῳ σου ἡ ἀσέβειά σου, καὶ υἱῷ ἀνθρώπου ἡ δικαιοσύνη σου. |

9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
מֵ֭רֹב עֲשׁוּקִ֣ים יַזְעִ֑יקוּ יְשַׁוְּע֖וּ מִזְּרֹ֣ועַ רַבִּֽים׃
| 9 ἀπὸ πλήθους συκοφαντούμενοι κεκράξονται, βοήσονται ἀπὸ βραχίονος πολλῶν. | 9 ἀπὸ πλήθους συκοφαντούμενοι κεκράξονται, βοήσονται ἀπὸ βραχίονος πολλῶν. |

10 But none says, Where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night;
וְֽלֹא־אָמַ֗ר אַ֭יֵּה אֱלֹ֣והַּ עֹשָׂ֑י נֹתֵ֖ן זְמִרֹ֣ות בַּלָּֽיְלָה׃
| 10 καὶ οὐκ εἶπεν ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ θεὸς ὁ ποιήσας με, ὁ κατατάσσων φυλακὰς νυκτερινάς, | 10 καὶ οὐκ εἶπε· ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ Θεὸς ὁ ποιήσας με, ὁ κατατάσσων φυλακὰς νυκτερινάς, |
| 10 But none said, Where is God that made me, who appoints the night-watches; | 10 But none said, Where is God that made me, who appoints the night-watches; |
11 Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
מַ֭לְּפֵנוּ מִבַּהֲמֹ֣ות אָ֑רֶץ וּמֵעֹ֖וף הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם יְחַכְּמֵֽנוּ׃
| 11 ὁ διορίζων με ἀπὸ τετραπόδων γῆς, ἀπὸ δὲ πετεινῶν οὐρανοῦ; | 11 ὁ διορίζων με ἀπὸ τετραπόδων γῆς, ἀπὸ δὲ πετεινῶν οὐρανοῦ; |

12 There they cry, but none gives answer, because of the pride of evil men.
שָׁ֣ם יִ֭צְעֲקוּ וְלֹ֣א יַעֲנֶ֑ה מִ֝פְּנֵ֗י גְּאֹ֣ון רָעִֽים׃
| 12 ἐκεῖ κεκράξονται, καὶ οὐ μὴ εἰσακούσῃ καὶ ἀπὸ ὕβρεως πονηρῶν. | 12 ἐκεῖ κεκράξονται, καὶ οὐ μὴ εἰσακούσῃ καὶ ἀπὸ ὕβρεως πονηρῶν. |

13 Surely God won’t hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
אַךְ־שָׁ֭וְא לֹא־יִשְׁמַ֥ע ׀ אֵ֑ל וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י לֹ֣א יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃
| 13 ἄτοπα γὰρ οὐ βούλεται ὁ κύριος ἰδεῖν· αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁ παντοκράτωρ ὁρατής ἐστιν | 13 ἄτοπα γὰρ οὐ βούλεται ἰδεῖν ὁ Κύριος, αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁ Παντοκράτωρ |

14 Although you say you shall not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust in him.
ַ֣ף כִּֽי־תֹ֖אמַר לֹ֣א תְשׁוּרֶ֑נּוּ דִּ֥ין לְ֝פָנָ֗יו וּתְחֹ֥ולֵֽל לֹֽו׃

15 But now, because it is not so, he has visited in his anger; yet he doesn’t know it in great extremity:
וְעַתָּ֗ה כִּי־אַ֭יִן פָּקַ֣ד אַפֹּ֑ו וְלֹֽא־יָדַ֖ע בַּפַּ֣שׁ מְאֹֽד׃

16 Therefore does Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplies words without knowledge.
וְ֭אִיֹּוב הֶ֣בֶל יִפְצֶה־פִּ֑יהוּ בִּבְלִי־דַ֝֗עַת מִלִּ֥ין יַכְבִּֽר׃
