Elihu Speaks of God’s Dealings with Men

1 Elihu also proceeded, and said,

וַיֹּ֥סֶף אֱלִיה֗וּא וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

2 Suffer me a little, and I will show you who I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

כַּתַּר־לִ֣י זְ֭עֵיר וַאֲחַוֶּ֑ךָּ כִּ֤י עֹ֖וד לֶאֱלֹ֣והַּ מִלִּֽים׃

3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

אֶשָּׂ֣א דֵ֭עִי לְמֵרָחֹ֑וק וּ֝לְפֹעֲלִ֗י אֶֽתֵּֽן־צֶֽדֶק׃

4 For truly my words shall not be false: he who is perfect in knowledge is with you.

כִּֽי־אָ֭מְנָם לֹא־שֶׁ֣קֶר מִלָּ֑י תְּמִ֖ים דֵּעֹ֣ות עִמָּֽךְ׃

5 Behold, God is mighty, and doesn’t despise any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

6 He preserves not the life of the wicked: but gives right to the poor.

7 He withdraws not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yes, he does establish them forever, and they are exalted.

7 οὐκ ἀφελεῖ ἀπὸ δικαίου ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ· καὶ μετὰ βασιλέων εἰς θρόνον καὶ καθιεῖ αὐτοὺς εἰς νῖκος, καὶ ὑψωθήσονται. 7 οὐκ ἀφελεῖ ἀπὸ δικαίου ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ· καὶ μετὰ βασιλέων εἰς θρόνον καὶ καθιεῖ αὐτοὺς εἰς νῖκος, καὶ ὑψωθήσονται.

8 And if they be bound in fetters, and be held in cords of affliction;

9 Then he shows them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

10 He opens also their ear to discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity.

11 ἐὰν ἀκούσωσιν καὶ δουλεύσωσιν, συντελέσουσιν τὰς ἡμέρας αὐτῶν ἐν ἀγαθοῖς καὶ τὰ ἔτη αὐτῶν ἐν εὐπρεπείαις. 11 ἐὰν ἀκούσωσι καὶ δουλεύσωσι, συντελέσουσι τὰς ἡμέρας αὐτῶν ἐν ἀγαθοῖς καὶ τὰ ἔτη αὐτῶν ἐν εὐπρεπείαις.

14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

15 He delivers the poor in his affliction, and opens their ears in oppression.

16 καὶ προσέτι ἠπάτησέν σὲ ἐκ στόματος ἐχθροῦ· ἄβυσσος, κατάχυσις ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς· καὶ κατέβη τράπεζά σου πλήρης πιότητος. 16 καὶ προσέτι ἠπάτησέ σε ἐκ στόματος ἐχθροῦ· ἄβυσσος, κατάχυσις ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς, καὶ κατέβη τράπεζά σου πλήρης πιότητος.

22 Behold, God exalts by his power: who teaches like him?

24 Remember that you magnify his work, which men behold.

זְ֭כֹר כִּֽי־תַשְׂגִּ֣יא פָעֳלֹ֑ו אֲשֶׁ֖ר שֹׁרְר֣וּ אֲנָשִֽׁים׃

27 For he makes small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour of it:

כִּ֭י יְגָרַ֣ע נִטְפֵי־מָ֑יִם יָזֹ֖קּוּ מָטָ֣ר לְאֵדֹֽו׃

27 ἀριθμηταὶ δὲ αὐτῷ σταγόνες ὑετοῦ, καὶ ἐπιχυθήσονται ὑετῷ εἰς νεφέλην· 27 ἀριθμηταὶ δὲ αὐτῷ σταγόνες ὑετοῦ, καὶ ἐπιχυθήσονται ὑετῷ εἰς νεφέλην·

28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

אֲשֶֽׁר־יִזְּל֥וּ שְׁחָקִ֑ים יִ֝רְעֲפ֗וּ עֲלֵ֤י ׀ אָדָ֬ם רָֽב׃

28 The ancient heavens shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. 29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

אַ֣ף אִם־יָ֭בִין מִפְרְשֵׂי־עָ֑ב תְּ֝שֻׁאֹ֗ות סֻכָּתֹֽו׃

עַל־כַּפַּ֥יִם כִּסָּה־אֹ֑ור וַיְצַ֖ו עָלֶ֣יהָ בְמַפְגִּֽיעַ׃

יַגִּ֣יד עָלָ֣יו רֵעֹ֑ו מִ֝קְנֶ֗ה אַ֣ף עַל־עֹולֶֽה׃
