Elihu: God Allows the Storm
1 At this also my heart trembles, and is moved out of his place.
אַף־לְ֭זֹאת יֶחֱרַ֣ד לִבִּ֑י וְ֝יִתַּ֗ר מִמְּקֹומֹֽו׃

2 Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goes out of his mouth.
שִׁמְע֤וּ שָׁמֹ֣ועַ בְּרֹ֣גֶז קֹלֹ֑ו וְ֝הֶ֗גֶה מִפִּ֥יו יֵצֵֽא׃

3 He directs it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.
תַּֽחַת־כָּל־הַשָּׁמַ֥יִם יִשְׁרֵ֑הוּ וְ֝אֹורֹ֗ו עַל־כַּנְפֹ֥ות הָאָֽרֶץ׃

יַרְעֵ֤ם אֵ֣ל בְּ֭קֹולֹו נִפְלָאֹ֑ות עֹשֶׂ֥ה גְ֝דֹלֹ֗ות וְלֹ֣א נֵדָֽע׃

6 For he says to the snow, Be on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
כִּ֤י לַשֶּׁ֨לַג ׀ יֹאמַ֗ר הֱוֵ֫א אָ֥רֶץ וְגֶ֥שֶׁם מָטָ֑ר וְ֝גֶ֗שֶׁם מִטְרֹ֥ות עֻזֹּֽו׃

7 He seals up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.
בְּיַד־כָּל־אָדָ֥ם יַחְתֹּ֑ום לָ֝דַ֗עַת כָּל־אַנְשֵׁ֥י מַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃

11 Also by watering he wearies the thick cloud: he scatters his bright cloud:
אַף־בְּ֭רִי יַטְרִ֣יחַ עָ֑ב יָ֝פִ֗יץ עֲנַ֣ן אֹורֹֽו׃

12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatever he commands them upon the face of the world in the earth.
וְה֤וּא מְסִבֹּ֨ות ׀ מִתְהַפֵּ֣ךְ לְפָעֳלָ֑ם כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יְצַוֵּ֓ם ׀ עַל־פְּנֵ֖י תֵבֵ֣ל אָֽרְצָה׃
| 12 καὶ αὐτὸς κυκλώματα διαστρέψει ἐν θεεβουλαθῷ εἰς ἔργα αὐτῶν· πάντα, ὅσα ἄν ἐντείληται αὐτοῖς, ταῦτα συντέτακται παρ’ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, | 12

אִם־לְשֵׁ֥בֶט אִם־לְאַרְצֹ֑ו אִם־לְ֝חֶ֗סֶד יַמְצִאֵֽהוּ׃

14 Listen unto this, Oh Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

15 Do you know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?
הֲ֭תֵדַע בְּשׂוּם־אֱלֹ֣והַּ עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וְ֝הֹופִ֗יעַ אֹ֣ור עֲנָנֹֽו׃

17 How your garments are warm, when he quiets the earth by the south wind?
אֲשֶׁר־בְּגָדֶ֥יךָ חַמִּ֑ים בְּהַשְׁקִ֥ט אֶ֝֗רֶץ מִדָּרֹֽום׃

תַּרְקִ֣יעַ עִ֭מֹּו לִשְׁחָקִ֑ים חֲ֝זָקִ֗ים כִּרְאִ֥י מוּצָֽק׃

21 And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passes, and cleanses them.
וְעַתָּ֤ה ׀ לֹ֘א רָ֤אוּ אֹ֗ור בָּהִ֣יר ה֭וּא בַּשְּׁחָקִ֑ים וְר֥וּחַ עָ֝בְרָ֗ה וַֽתְּטַהֲרֵֽם׃

22 Fair weather comes out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

23 Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he won’t afflict.

24 Men do therefore fear him: he doesn’t respect any that are wise of heart.
