| 3:1 Ὦ ἀνόητοι Γαλάται, τίς ὑμᾶς ἐβάσκανεν, οἷς κατ᾿ ὀφθαλμοὺς Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς προεγράφη ἐσταυρωμένος; |

ἀληθείᾳ
μὴ
πείθεσθαι; οἷς κατ᾿ ὀφθαλμοὺς Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς προεγράφη ἐν ἡμῖν ἐσταυρωμένος· |
| You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? | O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth, crucified among you? |

3:2 τοῦτο
μόνον
θέλω
μαθεῖν
ἀφ᾿
ὑμῶν· ἐξ ἔργων νόμου τὸ πνεῦμα ἐλάβετε ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως; |
2 τοῦτο μόνον θέλω μαθεῖν ἀφ᾿ ὑμῶν, ἐξ ἔργων νόμου τὸ πνεῦμα ἐλάβετε, ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως; |
| This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? | This only would I learn of you, Received you the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? |
| 3:3 οὕτως ἀνόητοί ἐστε, ἐναρξάμενοι πνεύματι νῦν σαρκὶ ἐπιτελεῖσθε; |

| Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? | Are you so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are you now made perfect by the flesh? |

3:4 τοσαῦτα
ἐπάθετε
εἰκῇ; εἴ γε καὶ εἰκῇ. |

ἐπάθετε
εἰκῇ; εἴ γε καὶ εἰκῇ. |
| Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? | Have you suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. |
| 3:5 ὁ οὖν ἐπιχορηγῶν ὑμῖν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἐνεργῶν δυνάμεις ἐν ὑμῖν, ἐξ ἔργων νόμου ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως; | 5 ὁ οὖν ἐπιχορηγῶν ὑμῖν τὸ πνεῦμα, καὶ ἐνεργῶν δυνάμεις ἐν ὑμῖν, ἐξ ἔργων νόμου ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως; |
| So then, does he who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? | He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? |
| 3:6 καθὼς Ἀβραὰμ ἐπίστευσεν τῷ θεῷ, καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην· | 6 καθὼς Ἀβραὰμ ἐπίστευσε τῷ θεῷ, καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην. |
| Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. | Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. |
| 3:7 γινώσκετε ἄρα ὅτι οἱ ἐκ πίστεως, οὗτοι υἱοί εἰσιν Ἀβραάμ. | 7 γινώσκετε ἄρα ὅτι οἱ ἐκ πίστεως, οὗτοί εἰσιν υἱοὶ Ἀβραάμ. |
| Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. | Know you therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. |
| 3:8 προϊδοῦσα δὲ ἡ γραφὴ ὅτι ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοῖ τὰ ἔθνη ὁ θεὸς προευηγγελίσατο τῷ Ἀβραὰμ ὅτι ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν σοί πάντα τὰ ἔθνη· | 8 προϊδοῦσα δὲ ἡ γραφὴ ὅτι ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοῖ τὰ ἔθνη ὁ θεός, προευηγγελίσατο τῷ Ἀβραὰμ, ὅτι ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν σοί πάντα τὰ ἔθνη. |
| The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.” | And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In you shall all nations be blessed. |
| 3:9 ὥστε οἱ ἐκ πίστεως εὐλογοῦνται σὺν τῷ πιστῷ Ἀβραάμ. | 9 ὥστε οἱ ἐκ πίστεως, εὐλογοῦνται σὺν τῷ πιστῷ Ἀβραάμ. |
| So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer. | So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. |

3:10 ὅσοι
γὰρ

ἔργων
νόμου
εἰσίν,
ὑπὸ
κατάραν
εἰσίν· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὃς οὐκ ἐμμένει πᾶσιν τοῖς γεγραμμένοις ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου τοῦ ποιῆσαι αὐτά. |

ἐξ
ἔργων
νόμου
εἰσίν,
ὑπὸ
κατάραν
εἰσί· γέγραπται γάρ, ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὃς οὐκ ἐμμένει ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς γεγραμμένοις ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου, τοῦ ποιῆσαι αὐτά. |
| For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who doesn’t abide by all things written in the book of the law, to perform them.” | For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. |
| 3:11 ὅτι δὲ ἐν νόμῳ οὐδεὶς δικαιοῦται παρὰ τῷ θεῷ δῆλον, ὅτι ὁ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεως ζήσεται· |

| Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, “The righteous man shall live by faith.” | But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. |
| 3:12 ὁ δὲ νόμος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ πίστεως, ἀλλ᾿ ὁ ποιήσας αὐτὰ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς. | 12 ὁ δὲ νόμος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ πίστεως, ἀλλ᾿ ὁ ποιήσας αὐτὰ ἄνθρωπος ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς. |
| However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, “He who practices them shall live by them.” | And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. |
| 3:13 Χριστὸς ἡμᾶς ἐξηγόρασεν ἐκ τῆς κατάρας τοῦ νόμου γενόμενος ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν κατάρα, ὅτι γέγραπται ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὁ κρεμάμενος ἐπὶ ξύλου, |

ἐξηγόρασεν
ἐκ
τῆς
κατάρας
τοῦ
νόμου,
γενόμενος
ὑπὲρ
ἡμῶν
κατάρα· γέγραπται γάρ, ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὁ κρεμάμενος ἐπὶ ξύλου· |
| Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”— | Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: |
| 3:14 ἵνα εἰς τὰ ἔθνη ἡ εὐλογία τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ γένηται ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, ἵνα τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πνεύματος λάβωμεν διὰ τῆς πίστεως. | 14 ἵνα εἰς τὰ ἔθνη ἡ εὐλογία τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ γένηται ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ, ἵνα τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πνεύματος λάβωμεν διὰ τῆς πίστεως. |
| in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. | That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. |

3:15 Ἀδελφοί,
κατὰ
ἄνθρωπον
λέγω· ὅμως ἀνθρώπου κεκυρωμένην διαθήκην οὐδεὶς ἀθετεῖ ἢ ἐπιδιατάσσεται. |
15 Ἀδελφοί,
κατὰ
ἄνθρωπον
λέγω. ὅμως ἀνθρώπου κεκυρωμένην διαθήκην οὐδεὶς ἀθετεῖ ἢ ἐπιδιατάσσεται. |
| Brothers, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. | Brothers, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. |

3:16 τῷ

Ἀβραὰμ
ἐρρέθησαν
αἱ
ἐπαγγελίαι
καὶ
τῷ
σπέρματι
αὐτοῦ. οὐ λέγει, καὶ τοῖς σπέρμασιν, ὡς ἐπὶ πολλῶν ἀλλ᾿ ὡς ἐφ᾿ ἑνός· καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου, ὅς ἐστιν Χριστός. |

δὲ
Ἀβραὰμ
ἐρρέθησαν
αἱ
ἐπαγγελίαι,
καὶ
τῷ
σπέρματι
αὐτοῦ· οὐ λέγει, καὶ τοῖς σπέρμασιν, ὡς ἐπὶ πολλῶν, ἀλλ᾿ ὡς ἐφ᾿ ἑνός, καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου, ὅς ἐστι Χριστός. |
| Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. he doesn’t say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ. | Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. he says not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to your seed, which is Christ. |

3:17 τοῦτο
δὲ
λέγω· διαθήκην προκεκυρωμένην ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ ὁ μετὰ τετρακόσια καὶ τριάκοντα ἔτη γεγονὼς νόμος οὐκ ἀκυροῖ εἰς τὸ καταργῆσαι τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν. |
17 τοῦτο δὲ λέγω, διαθήκην προκεκυρωμένην ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς Χριστὸν ὁ μετὰ ἔτη τετρακόσια καὶ τριάκοντα γεγονὼς νόμος οὐκ ἀκυροῖ, εἰς τὸ καταργῆσαι τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν. |
| What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, doesn’t invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. | And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. |

ἐπαγγελίας· τῷ δὲ Ἀβραὰμ δι᾿ ἐπαγγελίας κεχάρισται ὁ θεός. |

ἡ
κληρονομία,
οὐκ
ἔτι
ἐξ
ἐπαγγελίας· τῷ δὲ Ἀβραὰμ δι᾿ ἐπαγγελίας κεχάρισται ὁ θεός. |
| For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise. | For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. |

3:19 Τί

νόμος; τῶν παραβάσεων χάριν προσετέθη, ἄχρις οὗ ἔλθῃ τὸ σπέρμα ᾧ ἐπήγγελται, διαταγεὶς δι᾿ ἀγγέλων ἐν χειρὶ μεσίτου. |
19 Τί
οὖν
ὁ
νόμος; τῶν παραβάσεων χάριν προσετέθη, ἄχρις οὗ ἔλθῃ τὸ σπέρμα ᾧ ἐπήγγελται, διαταγεὶς δι᾿ ἀγγέλων, ἐν χειρὶ μεσίτου. |
| Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made. | Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. |
| 3:20 ὁ δὲ μεσίτης ἑνὸς οὐκ ἔστιν, ὁ δὲ θεὸς εἷς ἐστιν. | 20 ὁ δὲ μεσίτης ἑνὸς οὐκ ἔστιν, ὁ δὲ θεὸς εἷς ἐστιν. |
| Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one. | Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. |

γένοιτο. εἰ γὰρ ἐδόθη νόμος ὁ δυνάμενος ζῳοποιῆσαι, ὄντως ἐκ νόμου ἄν ἦν ἡ δικαιοσύνη· |
21 ὁ
οὖν
νόμος
κατὰ
τῶν
ἐπαγγελιῶν
τοῦ
θεοῦ; μὴ γένοιτο. εἰ γὰρ ἐδόθη νόμος ὁ δυνάμενος ζωοποιῆσαι, ὄντως ἄν ἐκ νόμου ἦν ἡ δικαιοσύνη· |
| Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. | Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. |
| 3:22 ἀλλὰ συνέκλεισεν ἡ γραφὴ τὰ πάντα ὑπὸ ἁμαρτίαν, ἵνα ἡ ἐπαγγελία ἐκ πίστεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ δοθῇ τοῖς πιστεύουσιν. | 22 ἀλλὰ συνέκλεισεν ἡ γραφὴ τὰ πάντα ὑπὸ ἁμαρτίαν, ἵνα ἡ ἐπαγγελία ἐκ πίστεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ δοθῇ τοῖς πιστεύουσι. |
| But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. | But the scripture has concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. |
| 3:23 πρὸ τοῦ δὲ ἐλθεῖν τὴν πίστιν ὑπὸ νόμον ἐφρουρούμεθα συγκλειόμενοι εἰς τὴν μέλλουσαν πίστιν ἀποκαλυφθῆναι, | 23 πρὸ τοῦ δὲ ἐλθεῖν τὴν πίστιν, ὑπὸ νόμον ἐφρουρούμεθα συγκεκλεισμένοι εἰς τὴν μέλλουσαν πίστιν ἀποκαλυφθῆναι· |
| But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. | But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. |
| 3:24 ὥστε ὁ νόμος παιδαγωγὸς ἡμῶν γέγονεν εἰς Χριστόν, ἵνα ἐκ πίστεως δικαιωθῶμεν, | 24 ὥστε ὁ νόμος παιδαγωγὸς ἡμῶν γέγονεν εἰς Χριστόν, ἵνα ἐκ πίστεως δικαιωθῶμεν· |
| Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. | Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. |
| 3:25 ἐλθούσης δὲ τῆς πίστεως οὐκέτι ὑπὸ παιδαγωγόν ἐσμεν. | 25 ἐλθούσης δὲ τῆς πίστεως οὐκ ἔτι ὑπὸ παιδαγωγόν ἐσμεν. |
| But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. | But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. |
| 3:26 Πάντες γὰρ υἱοὶ θεοῦ ἐστε διὰ τῆς πίστεως ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ· | 26 Πάντες γὰρ υἱοὶ θεοῦ ἐστε διὰ τῆς πίστεως ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ· |
| For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. | For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. |
| 3:27 ὅσοι γὰρ εἰς Χριστὸν ἐβαπτίσθητε, Χριστὸν ἐνεδύσασθε. | 27 ὅσοι γὰρ εἰς Χριστὸν ἐβαπτίσθητε, Χριστὸν ἐνεδύσασθε. |
| For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. | For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. |

ἐλεύθερος,

ἄρσεν

θῆλυ· πάντες γὰρ ὑμεῖς εἷς ἐστε ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ. |
28 οὐκ
ἔνι
Ἰουδαῖος,
οὐδὲ
Ἕλλην· οὐκ ἔνι δοῦλος, οὐδὲ ἐλεύθερος· οὐκ ἔνι ἄρσεν καὶ θῆλυ· πάντες γὰρ ὑμεῖς εἷς ἐστε ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ· |
| There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. | There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus. |
| 3:29 εἰ δὲ ὑμεῖς Χριστοῦ, ἄρα τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ σπέρμα ἐστέ, κατ᾿ ἐπαγγελίαν κληρονόμοι. | 29 εἰ δὲ ὑμεῖς Χριστοῦ, ἄρα τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ σπέρμα ἐστέ, κατ᾿ ἐπαγγελίαν κληρονόμοι. |
| And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise. | And if you be Christ's, then are you Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. |
