The Ten Commandments

1 And God spoke all these words, saying,

2 I am the LORD your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

2 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Aigypt’s land, out of a house of slavery. 2 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Aigypt’s land, out of a house of slavery.

3 You shall have no other gods before me.

3 There shall not be other gods for you besides me. 3 There shall not be other gods for you besides me.

4 You shall not make unto you any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

4 You shall not make for yourself an idol or a likeness of anything whatever is in the sky above and whatever is on the land below and whatever is in the waters beneath the earth. 4 You shall not make for yourself an idol or a likeness of anything whatever is in the sky above and whatever is on the land below and whatever is in the waters beneath the earth.

5 You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of those who hate me;

5 You shall not do obeisance to them, nor are you to serve them, for I am the Lord your God, a jealous God, repaying sins of fathers upon children up to the third and fourth generation to those who hate me, 5 You shall not do obeisance to them, nor are you to serve them, for I am the Lord your God, a jealous God, repaying sins of fathers upon children up to the third and fourth generation to those who hate me,

6 And showing mercy unto thousands of those who love me, and keep my commandments.

6 and performing mercy unto thousands, for those who love me and for those who keep my ordinances. 6 and performing mercy unto thousands, for those who love me and for those who keep my ordinances.

7 You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD won’t hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.

7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. For the Lord will never clear the one who takes his name in vain. 7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. For the Lord will never clear the one who takes his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

8 Remember the day of the sabbaths to consecrate it. 8 Remember the day of the sabbaths to consecrate it.

9 Six days shall you labour, and do all your work:

9 For six days you shall work and do all your work, 9 For six days you shall work and do all your work,

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates:

10 but on the seventh day there is Sabbata to the Lord your God. On it, you shall not do any work, you and your son and your daughter, your male slave and your female slave, your ox and your beasts of burden and any animal of yours and the immigrant who dwells as a resident alien among you. 10 but on the seventh day there is Sabbata to the Lord your God. On it, you shall not do any work, you and your son and your daughter, your male slave and your female slave, your ox and your beasts of burden and any animal of yours and the immigrant who dwells as a resident alien among you.

11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12 Honour your father and your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God gives you.

12 Honour your father and mother in order that it may be well with you and in order that you may be longlived on the good land that the Lord your God is giving you. 12 Honour your father and mother in order that it may be well with you and in order that you may be longlived on the good land that the Lord your God is giving you.

13 You shall not kill.

13 You shall not murder. 13 You shall not murder.

14 You shall not commit adultery.

14 You shall not commit adultery. 14 You shall not commit adultery.

15 You shall not steal.

15 You shall not steal. 15 You shall not steal.

16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

16 You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour by false witness. 16 You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour by false witness.

17 You shall not covet your neighbour’s house, you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbour's.

18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.

18 And all the people were perceiving the noise and the flashes and the noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking. Now all the people were afraid and stood at a distance. 18 And all the people were perceiving the noise and the flashes and the noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking. Now all the people were afraid and stood at a distance.

19 And they said unto Moses, Speak you with us, and we will hear: but don’t let God speak with us, lest we die.

19 And they said to Mōysēs, “You speak to us, and don’t let God speak to us, lest we die.” 19 And they said to Mōysēs, “You speak to us, and don’t let God speak to us, lest we die.”

20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that you sin not.

20 And Mōysēs says to them, “Be encouraged! For in order to test you, God has come to you so that his fear might be in you in order that you don’t sin.” 20 And Mōysēs says to them, “Be encouraged! For in order to test you, God has come to you so that his fear might be in you in order that you don’t sin.”

21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

21 Now the people had stood at a distance, but Mōysēs went into the darkness where God was. 21 Now the people had stood at a distance, but Mōysēs went into the darkness where God was.

22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus you shall say unto the children of Israel, You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

22 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, You shall say this to the house of Jakōb and report to the sons of Israēl, “You have seen what I have spoken from the sky to you. 22 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, You shall say this to the house of Jakōb and report to the sons of Israēl, “You have seen what I have spoken from the sky to you.

23 You shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall you make unto you gods of gold.

23 You shall not make for yourselves silver gods, and gold gods you shall not make for yourselves. 23 You shall not make for yourselves silver gods, and gold gods you shall not make for yourselves.

24 An altar of earth you shall make unto me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings, and your peace offerings, your sheep, and your oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto you, and I will bless you.

24 You shall make an altar of earth for me, and on it you shall sacrifice your whole burnt offerings and deliverance offerings, your sheep and your bull calves in every place, where I pronounce my name there, and I will come to you and bless you. 24 You shall make an altar of earth for me, and on it you shall sacrifice your whole burnt offerings and deliverance offerings, your sheep and your bull calves in every place, where I pronounce my name there, and I will come to you and bless you.

25 And if you will make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone: for if you lift up your tool upon it, you have polluted it.

25 But if you make an altar of stones for me, you shall not build them pre-trimmed. For you have applied the tool upon it, and it has been defiled. 25 But if you make an altar of stones for me, you shall not build them pre-trimmed. For you have applied the tool upon it, and it has been defiled.

26 Neither shall you go up by steps unto my altar, that your nakedness isn’t discovered on it.
