The People Complain

1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burned among them, and consumed those who were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

1 And the people were grumbling wicked things before the Lord, and the Lord heard and was angered with wrath. 2 And the people cried unto Mōysēs; and when Mōysēs prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.

2 And the people cried out to Mōysēs, and Mōysēs prayed to the Lord, and the fire abated. 2 And the people cried out to Mōysēs, and Mōysēs prayed to the Lord, and the fire abated.

3 And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burned among them.

3 And the name of that place was called "Burning," because fire was kindled among them from the Lord. 3 And the name of that place was called "Burning," because fire was kindled among them from the Lord.

4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israēl also wept again, and said, Who shall give us meat to eat?

4 And the mixed company among them lusted with lust, and after they sat down, they wept (also the sons of Israēl) and said, “Who will feed us with meat? 4 And the mixed company among them lusted with lust, and after they sat down, they wept (also the sons of Israēl) and said, “Who will feed us with meat?

5 We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic:

6 But our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

7 And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour of it as the colour of bdellium.

8 And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.

9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

9 And when the dew descended upon the camp by night, the manna used to descend on it. 9 And when the dew descended upon the camp by night, the manna used to descend on it.

Complaint of Mōysēs

10 Then Mōysēs heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Mōysēs also was displeased.

22 Shall sheep and oxen be slain for them, and shall it satisfy them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, and shall it satisfy them?” 22 Shall sheep and oxen be slain for them, and shall it satisfy them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, and shall it satisfy them?”

23 And the LORD said unto Mōysēs, Is the LORD’s hand grown short? you shall see now whether my word shall come to pass unto you or not.

23 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Μὴ χεὶρ κυρίου οὐκ ἐξαρκέσει;
23 καὶ εἶπε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν· μὴ χεὶρ Κυρίου οὐκ ἐξαρκέσει;
23 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, “Will the Lord’s hand be insufficient? Now you shall know whether my word will overtake you or not.” 23 And the Lord said to Mōysēs, “Will the Lord’s hand be insufficient? Now you shall know whether my word will overtake you or not.”

24 And Mōysēs went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the 70 men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.

25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spoke unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the 70 elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and didn’t cease.

26 But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of those who were written, but didn’t go out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.

26 And two men were left in the camp, the name of the one Eldad and the name of the second Mōdad, and the spirit rested upon them. And these were among the ones who had been registered, and they did not go to the tent, and they prophesied in the camp. 26 And two men were left in the camp, the name of the one Eldad and the name of the second Mōdad, and the spirit rested upon them. And these were among the ones who had been registered, and they did not go to the tent, and they prophesied in the camp.

27 And there ran a young man, and told Mōysēs, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.

27 And the young man ran out and reported to Mōysēs and spoke, saying, “Eldad and Mōdad are prophesying in the camp.” 27 And the young man ran out and reported to Mōysēs and spoke, saying, “Eldad and Mōdad are prophesying in the camp.”

28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Mōysēs, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Mōysēs, forbid them.

28 And Jēsous the son of Navē, the one who stood by Mōysēs, the chosen one, said, “Oh Mōysēs, sir, forbid them!” 28 And Jēsous the son of Navē, the one who stood by Mōysēs, the chosen one, said, “Oh Mōysēs, sir, forbid them!”

29 And Mōysēs said unto him, Do you envy for my sake? would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

29 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Μωυσῆς Μὴ ζηλοῖς σύ μοι;
καὶ τίς δῴη πάντα τὸν λαὸν κυρίου προφήτας, ὅταν δῷ κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτούς;
29 καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς αὐτῷ· μὴ ζηλοῖς ἐμέ;
καὶ τίς δῴη πάντα τὸν λαὸν Κυρίου προφήτας, ὅταν δῷ Κύριος τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτούς;
29 And Mōysēs said to him, “You're not jealous for me, eh? And who might grant that all the Lord’s people be prophets, when the Lord grants his spirit upon them?” 29 And Mōysēs said to him, “You're not jealous for me, eh? And who might grant that all the Lord’s people be prophets, when the Lord grants his spirit upon them?”

30 And Mōysēs got into the camp, he and the elders of Israēl.

30 And Mōysēs departed into the camp, he and the elders of Israēl. 30 And Mōysēs departed into the camp, he and the elders of Israēl.

Plague of Quails

31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.

31 And a wind went out from the Lord, and it brought out quail from the sea, and it cast them upon the camp, a day’s journey on this side and a day’s journey on the other side, all around the camp, about two cubits in height from the ground. 31 And a wind went out from the Lord, and it brought out quail from the sea, and it cast them upon the camp, a day’s journey on this side and a day’s journey on the other side, all around the camp, about two cubits in height from the ground.

32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he who gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

32 And the people rose up all day and all night and all the next day and gathered the quail. He who gathered little gathered ten kors, and they dried them for themselves in drying places around the camp. 32 And the people rose up all day and all night and all the next day and gathered the quail. He who gathered little gathered ten kors, and they dried them for themselves in drying places around the camp.

33 And while the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

33 The meat was still between their teeth before it was exhausted, and the Lord became angry against the people, and the Lord struck among the people with a very great plague. 33 The meat was still between their teeth before it was exhausted, and the Lord became angry against the people, and the Lord struck among the people with a very great plague.

34 And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people who lusted.

34 And the name of that place was called Tombs of the Lust, because there they buried the people that lusted. 34 And the name of that place was called Tombs of the Lust, because there they buried the people that lusted.

35 And the people journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.

35 From Tombs of Lust, the people set out for Aserōth, and the people were in Aserōth. 35 From Tombs of Lust, the people set out for Aserōth, and the people were in Aserōth.
