22 But if you say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and Jerusalem, You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

23 Now therefore, I pray you, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver you 2000 horses, if you be able on your part to set riders upon them.

23 And now, I pray you, make and agreement with my lord the king of the Assyrians, and I will give you 2000 horses, if you shall be able on your part to set riders upon them. 23 And now, I pray you, make and agreement with my lord the king of the Assyrians, and I will give you 2000 horses, if you shall be able on your part to set riders upon them.

24 How then will you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

24 καὶ πῶς ἀποστρέψεις τὸ πρόσωπον τοπάρχου ἑνὸς τῶν δούλων τοῦ κυρίου μου τῶν ἐλαχίστων;
24 καὶ πῶς ἀποστρέψεις τὸ πρόσωπον τοπάρχου ἑνὸς τῶν δούλων τοῦ κυρίου μου τῶν ἐλαχίστων;
24 How then will you turn away the face of one petty governor, from among the least of my lord’s servants? whereas you trust for yourself on Egypt for chariots and horsemen. 24 How then will you turn away the face of one petty governor, from among the least of my lord’s servants? whereas you trust for yourself on Egypt for chariots and horsemen.

25 Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

25 καὶ νῦν μὴ ἄνευ Κυρίου ἀνέβημεν ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦτον τοῦ διαφθεῖραι αὐτόν;
25 And now have we come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it. 25 And now have we come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

26 Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh, Speak, I pray you, to your servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

26 καὶ εἶπεν Ἐλιακὶμ υἱὸς Χελκίου καὶ Σομνὰς καὶ Ἰωὰς πρὸς Ῥαψάκην λάλησον δὴ πρὸς τοὺς παῖδάς σου Συριστί, ὅτι ἀκούομεν ἡμεῖς, καὶ οὐ λαλήσεις μεθ’ ἡμῶν Ἰουδαϊστί, καὶ ἵνα τί λαλεῖς ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ τείχους; 26 καὶ εἶπε Ἑλιακὶμ υἱὸς Χελκίου καὶ Σωμνὰς καὶ Ἰωὰς πρὸς Ῥαψάκην· λάλησον δὴ πρὸς τοὺς παῖδάς σου Συριστί, ὅτι ἀκούομεν ἡμεῖς, καὶ οὐ λαλήσεις μεθ’ ἡμῶν Ἰουδαϊστί, καὶ ἱνατί λαλεῖς ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶ τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ τείχους;
26 And Heliakim the son of Chelkias, and Somnas, and Joas, said to Rapsakes, Speak now to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it; and don’t speak with us in the Jewish language: and why do you speak in the ears of the people that are on the wall? 26 And Heliakim the son of Chelkias, and Somnas, and Joas, said to Rapsakes, Speak now to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it; and don’t speak with us in the Jewish language: and why do you speak in the ears of the people that are on the wall?

27 But Rab-shakeh said unto them, Has my master sent me to your master, and to you, to speak these words? hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you.

28 Then Rab-shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

28 And Rapsakes stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Joudean language, and spoke, and said, Hear the words of the great king of the Assyrians: 28 And Rapsakes stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Joudean language, and spoke, and said, Hear the words of the great king of the Assyrians:

29 Thus says the king, Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

29 thus says the king, Don’t let Ezekias encourage you with words: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand. 29 thus says the king, Don’t let Ezekias encourage you with words: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand.

30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

30 And don’t let Ezekias cause you to trust on the Lord, saying, The Lord will certainly deliver us; this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of the Assyrians: listen not to Ezekias: 30 And don’t let Ezekias cause you to trust on the Lord, saying, The Lord will certainly deliver us; this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of the Assyrians: listen not to Ezekias:

31 Listen not to Hezekiah: for thus says the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat you every man of his own vine, and everyone of his fig tree, and drink you everyone the waters of his cistern:

31 for thus says the king of the Assyrians, Gain my favour, and come forth to me, and every man shall drink of the wine of his own vine, and every man shall eat of his own fig-tree, and shall drink water out of his own cistern; 31 for thus says the king of the Assyrians, Gain my favour, and come forth to me, and every man shall drink of the wine of his own vine, and every man shall eat of his own fig-tree, and shall drink water out of his own cistern;

32 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that you may live, and not die: and listen not unto Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

32 until I come and remove you to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, and bread and vineyards, a land of olive oil, and honey, and you shall live and not die: and don’t you listen to Ezekias, for he deceives you, saying, The Lord shall deliver you. 32 until I come and remove you to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, and bread and vineyards, a land of olive oil, and honey, and you shall live and not die: and don’t you listen to Ezekias, for he deceives you, saying, The Lord shall deliver you.

33 Has any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

33 Have the Gods of the nations at all delivered each their own land out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians? 33 Have the Gods of the nations at all delivered each their own land out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians?

34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

36 But the men were silent, and answered him not a word: for there was a commandment of the king, saying, You shall not answer him. 36 But the men were silent, and answered him not a word: for there was a commandment of the king, saying, You shall not answer him.

37 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
