And Simeōn blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israēl, and for a sign to be opposed— | And Simeōn blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israēl; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; |

2:38 καὶ αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἐπιστᾶσα ἀνθωμολογεῖτο τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἐλάλει περὶ αὐτοῦ πᾶσιν τοῖς προσδεχομένοις λύτρωσιν Ἰερουσαλήμ. | 38 καὶ αὕτη αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἐπιστᾶσα ἀνθωμολογεῖτο τῷ Κυρίῳ, καὶ ἐλάλει περὶ αὐτοῦ πᾶσι τοῖς προσδεχομένοις λύτρωσιν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ. |
At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. | And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spoke of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. |

and as they were returning, after spending the full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But his parents were unaware of it, | And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Jōsēph and his mother knew not of it. |
2:44 νομίσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν εἶναι ἐν τῇ συνοδίᾳ ἦλθον ἡμέρας ὁδὸν καὶ ἀνεζήτουν αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς συγγενεῦσιν καὶ τοῖς γνωστοῖς, | 44 νομίσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν εἶναι ἐν τῇ συνοδίᾳ εἶναι, ἦλθον ἡμέρας ὁδόν, καὶ ἀνεζήτουν αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς συγγενέσι καὶ ἐν τοῖς γνωστοῖς· |
but supposed him to be in the caravan, and went a day's journey; and they began looking for him among their relatives and acquaintances. | But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. |
2:45 καὶ μὴ εὑρόντες ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἀναζητοῦντες αὐτόν. | 45 καὶ μὴ εὑρόντες αὐτόν, ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, ζητοῦντες αὐτόν. |
When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for him. | And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. |

When they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.” | And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I have sought you sorrowing. |
2:49 καὶ

And he said to them, “Why is it that you were looking for me? Did you not know that I had to be in my Father's house?” | And he said unto them, How is it that you sought me? know you not that I must be about my Father's business? |
2:50 καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐ συνῆκαν τὸ ῥῆμα ὃ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς. | 50 καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐ συνῆκαν τὸ ῥῆμα ὃ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς. |
But they didn’t understand the statement which he had made to them. | And they understood not the saying which he spoke unto them. |

And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and he continued in subjection to them; and his mother treasured all these things in her heart. | And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. |
2:52 καὶ Ἰησοῦς προέκοπτεν [ἐν τῇ] σοφίᾳ καὶ ἡλικίᾳ καὶ χάριτι παρὰ θεῷ καὶ ἀνθρώποις. | 52 καὶ Ἰησοῦς προέκοπτε σοφίᾳ καὶ ἡλικίᾳ, καὶ χάριτι παρὰ θεῷ καὶ ἀνθρώποις. |
And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men. | And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. |
