But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
but when they entered, they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
24:5 ἐμφόβων δὲ γενομένων αὐτῶν καὶ κλινουσῶν τὰ πρόσωπα εἰς τὴν γῆν εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτάς, τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν· 5 ἐμφόβων δὲ γενομένων αὐτῶν, καὶ κλινουσῶν τὰ πρόσωπον εἰς τὴν γῆν, εἶπον πρὸς αὐτάς, τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν;
and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek you the living among the dead?
He is not here, but he has risen. Remember how he spoke to you while he was still in Galilee, He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
And they remembered his words, And they remembered his words,
and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
Now they were Mary Magdalēnē and Joanna and Mary the mother of Jacōb; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. It was Mary Magdalēnē and Joanna, and Mary the mother of Jacōb, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened. Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself approached and began traveling with them. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
But their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
24:17 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, τίνες οἱ λόγοι οὗτοι οὓς ἀντιβάλλετε πρὸς ἀλλήλους περιπατοῦντες;
17 εἶπε δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, τίνες οἱ λόγοι οὗτοι, οὓς ἀντιβάλλετε πρὸς ἀλλήλους περιπατοῦντες, καὶ ἐστε σκυθρωποί;
And he said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they stood still, looking sad. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that you have one to another, as you walk, and are sad?
24:18 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἷς ὀνόματι Κλεοπᾶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, σὺ μόνος παροικεῖς Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ οὐκ ἔγνως τὰ γενόμενα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις; 18 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἷς, ὄνομα Κλεόπας, εἶπε πρὸς αὐτόν, σὺ μόνος παροικεῖς ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ οὐκ ἔγνως τὰ γενόμενα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις;
One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to him, “Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?” And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art you only a stranger in Jerusalem, and have not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
24:19 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ποῖα;
19 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ποῖα;
And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to the sentence of death, and crucified him. And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
But we were hoping that it was he who was going to redeem Israēl. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israēl: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
and didn’t find his body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but him they didn’t see.” And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
And he said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Then he said unto them, Oh fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
24:26 οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν Χριστὸν καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ; 26 οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν Χριστόν, καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ;
Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?” Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
Then beginning with Mōses and with all the prophets, he explained to them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures. And beginning at Mōses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
And they approached the village where they were going, and he acted as though he were going farther. And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
But they urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
When he had reclined at the table with them, he took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, he began giving it to them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
24:32 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους, οὐχὶ καρδία ἡμῶν καιομένη ἦν [ἐν ἡμῖν] ὡς ἐλάλει ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ, ὡς διήνοιγεν ἡμῖν τὰς γραφάς; 32 καὶ εἶπον πρὸς ἀλλήλους, οὐχὶ καρδία ἡμῶν καιομένη ἦν ἐν ἡμῖν, ὡς ἐλάλει ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ, καὶ ὡς διήνοιγεν ἡμῖν τὰς γραφάς;
They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was speaking to us on the road, while he was explaining the Scriptures to us?” And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them, And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
saying, “The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simōn.” Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simōn.
They began to relate their experiences on the road and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
While they were telling these things, he himself stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be to you.” And as they thus spoke, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and says unto them, Peace be unto you.
But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
24:38 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί τεταραγμένοι ἐστὲ καὶ διὰ τί διαλογισμοὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν; 38 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί τεταραγμένοι ἐστέ;
καὶ διατί διαλογισμοὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν;
And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? And he said unto them, Why are you troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
See my hands and my feet, that it is I Myself; touch me and see, for a spirit doesn’t have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have.
And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.
24:41 ἔτι δὲ ἀπιστούντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῆς χαρᾶς καὶ θαυμαζόντων εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἔχετέ τι βρώσιμον ἐνθάδε; 41 ἔτι δὲ ἀπιστούντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῆς χαρᾶς καὶ θαυμαζόντων, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἔχετέ τι βρώσιμον ἐνθάδε;
While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have you here any meat?
They gave him a piece of a broiled fish; And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
and he took it and ate it before them. And he took it, and did eat before them.
Now he said to them, “These are my words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about me in the Law of Mōses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Mōses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
and he said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things. And you are witnesses of these things.
And behold, I am sending forth the promise of my Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high.
