2:1 Διὸ
εἶ,
ὦ
πᾶς
ὁ
Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. | Therefore you are inexcusable, Oh man, whosoever you are that judgest: for wherein you judgest another, you condemnest yourself; for you that judgest doest the same things. |
And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. | But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. |
But do you suppose this, Oh man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? | And thinkest you this, Oh man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that you shall escape the judgment of God? |
Or do you think lightly of the riches of his kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? | Or despisest you the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth you to repentance? |
But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, | But after your hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; |
who will render to each person according to his deeds: | Who will render to every man according to his deeds: |
to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life; | To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: |
but to those who are selfishly ambitious and don’t obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. | But unto them that are contentious, and don’t obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, |
There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, | Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; |
but glory and honour and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. | But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: |
For there is no partiality with God. | For there is no respect of persons with God. |
For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; | For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; |
for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. | (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. |
For when Gentiles who don’t have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, | For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: |
in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, | Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) |
on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. | In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. |
But if you bear the name “Jew” and rely upon the Law and boast in God, | Behold, you are called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest your boast of God, |
and know his will and approve the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law, | And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; |
and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, | And are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, |
a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth, | An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which have the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. |
2:21 ὁ
οὖν
οὐ
you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal? | You therefore which teachest another, teachest you not yourself? you that preachest a man should not steal, dost you steal? |
2:22 ὁ
μὴ
You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? | You that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost you commit adultery? you that abhorrest idols, dost you commit sacrilege? |
You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonour God? | You that makest your boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest you God? |
For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” just as it is written. | For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. |
μὲν
γὰρ
ἐὰν
For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. | For circumcision verily profiteth, if you keep the law: but if you be a breaker of the law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision. |
So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? | Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? |
And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law? | And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge you, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? |
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. | For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: |
But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God. | But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. |
