Chapter 10

brothers, my heart's desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israēl is, that they might be saved.
For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
For not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they didn’t subject themselves to the righteousness of God. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
For Mōsēs writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness. For Mōses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
10:6  δὲ ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοσύνη οὕτως λέγει, Μὴ εἴπῃς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, Τίς ἀναβήσεται εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν;
6  δὲ ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοσύνη οὕτως λέγει, Μὴ εἴπῃς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, Τίς ἀναβήσεται εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν;
Now the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), Now the righteousness which is of faith speaks on this wise, Say not in your heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
10:7 , τίς καταβήσεται εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον;
7 , τίς καταβήσεται εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον;
or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
10:8 ἀλλὰ τί λέγει;
8 ἀλλὰ τί λέγει;
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, But what says it? The word is nigh you, even in your mouth, and in your heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved; That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.” For the scripture says, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on him; For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
10:14 Πῶς οὖν ἐπικαλέσωνται εἰς ὃν οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν;
πῶς δὲ πιστεύσωσιν οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
πῶς δὲ ἀκούσωσιν χωρὶς κηρύσσοντος;
14 Πῶς οὖν ἐπικαλέσονται εἰς ὃν οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν;
πῶς δὲ πιστεύσουσιν οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
πῶς δὲ ἀκούσουσι χωρὶς κηρύσσοντος;
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
10:15 πῶς δὲ κηρύξωσιν ἐὰν μὴ ἀποσταλῶσιν;
15 πῶς δὲ κηρύξουσιν, ἐὰν μὴ ἀποσταλῶσι;
How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!” And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Ἠσαΐας γὰρ λέγει, Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσεν τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν;
Ἠσαΐας γὰρ λέγει, Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσε τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν;
However, they didn’t all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our report?
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
10:18 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
18 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have; “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.” But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
10:19 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ Ἰσραὴλ οὐκ ἔγνω;
19 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἔγνω Ἰσραήλ;
But I say, surely Israēl didn’t know, did they? First Mōsēs says, “I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation, By a nation without understanding will I anger you.” But I say, Did not Israēl know? First Mōses says, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
And Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who didn’t seek me, I became manifest to those who didn’t ask for me.” But Isaiah is very bold, and says, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
But as for Israēl he says, “All the day long I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.” But to Israēl he says, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
