1 [LXX=21:1] And the son of Ader gathered all his forces, and went up and laid siege against Samaria, and 32 kings with him, and every horse and chariot: and they went up and laie siedge against Samaria, and battled against her. 1 [LXX=21:1] And the son of Ader gathered all his forces, and went up and laid siege against Samaria, and 32 kings with him, and every horse and chariot: and they went up and laie siedge against Samaria, and battled against her.

2 [LXX=21:2] And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israēl into the city, and said unto him, Thus says Ben-hadad,

2 [LXX=21:2] And he sent to Achaab king of Israēl into the city, 2 [LXX=21:2] And he sent to Achaab king of Israēl into the city, and said to him, Thus says Ader’s son,

3 [LXX=21:3] Your silver and your gold is mine; your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.

3 [LXX=21:3] and said to him, thus says Ader’s son, “Your silver and your gold are mine, and your wives and your children are mine.” 3 [LXX=21:3] “Your silver and your gold are mine, and your wives and your children are mine.”

4 [LXX=21:4] And the king of Israēl answered and said, My lord, Oh king, according to your saying, I am yours, and all that I have.

4 [LXX=21:4] And the king of Israēl answered and said, “As you have spoken, my lord, Oh, lord king, I and all my things are yours.” 4 [LXX=21:4] And the king of Israēl answered and said, “As you have spoken, my lord, Oh, lord king, I and all my things are yours.”

5 [LXX=21:5] And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Ben-hadad, saying, Although I have sent to you, saying, You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;

5 [LXX=21:5] And the messengers returned, and said, “Thus says the son of Ader, I sent to you, saying, You shall give me your silver and your gold, and your wives and your children. 5 [LXX=21:5] And the messengers returned, and said, “Thus says the son of Ader, I sent to you, saying, You shall give me your silver and your gold, and your wives and your children.

6 [LXX=21:6] Yet I will send my servants unto you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

6 [LXX=21:6] For at this hour tomorrow I will send my servants to you, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants, and it shall be that the desirable things of their eyes, on which they shall lay their hands, they will take.” 6 [LXX=21:6] For at this hour tomorrow I will send my servants to you, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants, and it shall be that all the desirable things of their eyes, on which they shall lay their hands, they will take.”

7 [LXX=21:7] Then the king of Israēl called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeks mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.

7 [LXX=21:7] And the king of Israēl called all the elders, and said, “Know certainly and see, that this man seeks malice; for he has sent to me concerning my wives, and concerning my sons, an concerning my daughters. I haven’t kept back from him my silver and my gold.” 7 [LXX=21:7] And the king of Israēl called all the elders of the land, and said, “Know certainly and see, that this man seeks malice; for he has sent to me concerning my wives, and concerning my sons, an concerning my daughters. I haven’t kept back from him my silver and my gold.”

8 [LXX=21:8] And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Don’t listen to him, nor consent.

8 [LXX=21:8] And the elders and all the people said to him, “Don’t listen, and don’t comply.” 8 [LXX=21:8] And the elders and all the people said to him, “Don’t listen, and don’t comply.”

9 [LXX=21:9] Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.

9 [LXX=21:9] And he said to the messengers of the son of Ader, “Say to your master, All things that you have sent to your servant at first I will do; but this thing I won’t be able to do.” And the men departed, and returned word to him. 9 [LXX=21:9] And he said to the messengers of the son of Ader, “Say to your master, All things that you have sent to your servant at first I will do; but this thing I won’t be able to do.” And the men departed, and returned word to him.

10 [LXX=21:10] And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall satisfy for handfuls for all the people who follow me.

10 [LXX=21:10] And the son of Ader sent back to him, saying, “Thus may God do to me and thus may be added, if the dust of Samaria shall be sufficient for the foxes for all the people for all my foot soldiers.” 10 [LXX=21:10] And the son of Ader sent back to him, saying, “Thus may God do to me and thus may be added, if the dust of Samaria shall be sufficient for the foxes for all the people for all my foot soldiers.”

11 [LXX=21:11] And the king of Israēl answered and said, Tell him, Don’t let him who girds on his harness boast himself as he who puts it off.

11 [LXX=21:11] And the king of Israēl answered and said, “Let it be enough; don’t let the humpbacked boast like the upright.” 11 [LXX=21:11] And the king of Israēl answered and said, “Let it be enough; don’t let the humpbacked boast like the upright.”

12 [LXX=21:12] And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.

12 [LXX=21:12] And it happened when he answered this word, he and all the kings with him were drinking in tents. And he said to his servants, “Build a siege tower.” And they put a siege tower against the city. 12 [LXX=21:12] And it happened when he answered this word, he and all the kings with him were drinking in tents. Ahab Victorious

13 [LXX=21:13] And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israēl, saying, Thus says the LORD, Have you seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it in to your hand this day; and you shall know that I am the LORD.

13 [LXX=21:13] And, look! a prophet came to the king of Israēl, and said, “Thus says the Lord, Have you seen all this great crowd? look, I give it this day into your hands; and you shall know that I am Lord.” 13 [LXX=21:13] And, look! a prophet came to Achaab the king of Israēl, and said, “Thus says the Lord, Have you seen all this great crowd? look, I give it this day into your hands; and you shall know that I am Lord.”

14 [LXX=21:14] And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus says the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, You.

34 [LXX=21:34] And he said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore to you; and you shall put streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made streets in Samaria; and I send you out with a treaty.” And he made a treaty with him, and sent him out. 34 [LXX=21:34] And he said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore to you; and you shall put streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made streets in Samaria; and I send you out with a treaty.” And he made a treaty with him, and sent him out.

35 [LXX=21:35] And a man, one of the sons of the prophets, said unto his neighbour by the word of the LORD, Hit me hard. And the man refused to hit him.

36 [LXX=21:36] Then said he unto him, Because you haven’t obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.

36 [LXX=21:36] And he said to him, “Since you haven’t listened to the voice of the Lord, look! 37 [LXX=21:37] Then he found another man, and said, Hit me hard, I pray you. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.

37 [LXX=21:37] And he found another man, and said, “Hit me hard.” And the man hit him; and in hitting, wounded him. 37 [LXX=21:37] And he found another man, and said, “Hit me hard.” And the man hit him; and in hitting, wounded him.

38 [LXX=21:38] So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

38 [LXX=21:38] And the prophet went and stood before the king of Israēl by the road, and bound his eyes with a bandage. 38 [LXX=21:38] And the prophet went and stood before the king of Israēl by the road, and bound his eyes with a bandage.

39 [LXX=21:39] And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.

39 [LXX=21:39] And it happened as the king passed by, that he shouted to the king, and said, “Your servant went out to the army for the battle, and, look! a man brought a man to me, and said to me, Guard this man; and if escaping he escapes, then your life instead of his life, or you will pay a talent of silver. 39 [LXX=21:39] And it happened as the king passed by, that he shouted to the king, and said, Your servant went out to the army for the battle, and, look! a man brought a man to me, and said to me, Guard this man; and if escaping he escapes, then your life instead of his life, or you will pay a talent of silver.

40 [LXX=21:40] And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israēl said unto him, So shall your judgment be; you yourself have decided it.

40 [LXX=21:40] And it happened, that your servant looked round this way and that way, and this one was not.” And the king of Israēl said to him, “Look! you have killed the snares near me.” 40 [LXX=21:40] And it happened, that your servant looked round this way and that way, and this one was not.” And the king of Israēl said to him, “Look! you have killed the snares near me.”

41 [LXX=21:41] And he hurried, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israēl discerned him that he was of the prophets.

42 [LXX=21:42] And he said to him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

43 [LXX=21:43] And the king of Israēl went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
