Joseph’s Brothers Sent to Egypt
1 Now when Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do you look one upon another?
וַיַּ֣רְא יַעֲקֹ֔ב כִּ֥י יֶשׁ־שֶׁ֖בֶר בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יַעֲקֹב֙ לְבָנָ֔יו לָ֖מָּה תִּתְרָאֽוּ׃

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִשְׁבֹּ֖ר בְּתֹ֣וךְ הַבָּאִ֑ים כִּֽי־הָיָ֥ה הָרָעָ֖ב בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃

וַיִּזְכֹּ֣ר יֹוסֵ֔ף אֵ֚ת הַחֲלֹמֹ֔ות אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָלַ֖ם לָהֶ֑ם וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ מְרַגְּלִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם לִרְאֹ֛ות אֶת־עֶרְוַ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץ בָּאתֶֽם׃
| 9 καὶ ἐμνήσθη Ἰωσὴφ τῶν ἐνυπνίων, ὧν εἶδεν αὐτός, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Κατάσκοποί ἐστε· κατανοῆσαι τὰ ἴχνη τῆς χώρας ἥκατε. | 9 καὶ ἐμνήσθη Ἰωσὴφ τῶν ἐνυπνίων αὐτοῦ, ὧν εἶδεν αὐτός, καὶ εἶπε αὐτοῖς· κατάσκοποί ἐστε, κατανοῆσαι τὰ ἴχνη τῆς χώρας ἥκατε. |

כֻּלָּ֕נוּ בְּנֵ֥י אִישׁ־אֶחָ֖ד נָ֑חְנוּ כֵּנִ֣ים אֲנַ֔חְנוּ לֹא־הָי֥וּ עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ מְרַגְּלִֽים׃

וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ שְׁנֵ֣ים עָשָׂר֩ עֲבָדֶ֨יךָ אַחִ֧ים ׀ אֲנַ֛חְנוּ בְּנֵ֥י אִישׁ־אֶחָ֖ד בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן וְהִנֵּ֨ה הַקָּטֹ֤ן אֶת־אָבִ֙ינוּ֙ הַיֹּ֔ום וְהָאֶחָ֖ד אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃
| 13 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, Δώδεκά ἐσμεν οἱ παῖδές σου ἀδελφοὶ ἐν γῇ Χαναάν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ νεώτερος μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν σήμερον, ὁ δὲ ἕτερος οὐχ ὑπάρχει. | 13 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· δώδεκά ἔσμεν οἱ παῖδες σου ἀδελφοὶ ἐν γῇ Χαναάν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ νεώτερος μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν σήμερον, ὁ δὲ ἕτερος οὐχ ὑπάρχει. |

בְּזֹ֖את תִּבָּחֵ֑נוּ חֵ֤י פַרְעֹה֙ אִם־תֵּצְא֣וּ מִזֶּ֔ה כִּ֧י אִם־בְּבֹ֛וא אֲחִיכֶ֥ם הַקָּטֹ֖ן הֵֽנָּה׃
| 15 ἐν τούτῳ φανεῖσθε· νὴ τὴν ὑγίειαν Φαραώ, οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθητε ἐντεῦθεν, ἐὰν μὴ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος ἔλθῃ ὧδε. | 15 ἐν τούτῳ φανεῖσθε· νὴ τὴν ὑγίειαν Φαραώ, οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθητε ἐντεῦθεν, ἐὰν μὴ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος ἔλθῃ ὧδε. |

| 16 ἀποστείλατε ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕνα καὶ λάβετε τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν, ὑμεῖς δὲ ἀπάχθητε ἕως τοῦ φανερὰ γενέσθαι τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν, εἰ ἀληθεύετε ἢ οὔ εἰ δὲ μή, νὴ τὴν ὑγίειαν Φαραώ, ἦ μὴν κατάσκοποί ἐστε. | 16 ἀποστείλατε ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕνα καὶ λάβετε τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν, ὑμεῖς δὲ ἀπάχθητε ἕως τοῦ φανερὰ γενέσθαι τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν, εἰ ἀληθεύετε ἢ οὔ· εἰ δὲ μή, νὴ τὴν ὑγίειαν Φαραώ, ἦ μὴν κατάσκοποί ἐστε. |

יֶּאֱסֹ֥ף אֹתָ֛ם אֶל־מִשְׁמָ֖ר שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת יָמִֽים׃

| 18 Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ, Τοῦτο ποιήσατε καὶ ζήσεσθε τὸν θεὸν γὰρ ἐγὼ φοβοῦμαι· | 18 Εἶπε δὲ αὐτοῖς τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ· τοῦτο ποιήσατε καὶ ζήσεσθε, τὸν Θεὸν γὰρ ἐγὼ φοβοῦμαι· |

19 If you are true men, let one of your brothers be bound in the house of your prison: go, carry grain for the famine of your houses:
אִם־כֵּנִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם אֲחִיכֶ֣ם אֶחָ֔ד יֵאָסֵ֖ר בְּבֵ֣ית מִשְׁמַרְכֶ֑ם וְאַתֶּם֙ לְכ֣וּ הָבִ֔יאוּ שֶׁ֖בֶר רַעֲבֹ֥ון בָּתֵּיכֶֽם׃
| 19 εἰ εἰρηνικοί ἐστε, ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν εἷς κατασχεθήτω ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ, αὐτοὶ δὲ βαδίσατε καὶ ἀπαγάγετε τὸν ἀγορασμὸν τῆς σιτοδοσίας ὑμῶν | 19 εἰ εἰρηνικοί ἐστε, ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν κατασχεθήτω εἷς ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ, αὐτοὶ δὲ βαδίσατε καὶ ἀπαγάγετε τὸν ἀγορασμὸν τῆς σιτοδοσίας ὑμῶν, |

21 And they said to one another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.

| 36 And their father Jakōb said to them, “I am the one you have bereaved of children: Jōsēph is not, Symeōn is not, and you will take Benjamin. 37 And Reuben spoke unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to you: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to you again.
יֹּ֤אמֶר רְאוּבֵן֙ אֶל־אָבִ֣יו לֵאמֹ֔ר אֶת־שְׁנֵ֤י בָנַי֙ תָּמִ֔ית אִם־לֹ֥א אֲבִיאֶ֖נּוּ אֵלֶ֑יךָ תְּנָ֤ה אֹתֹו֙ עַל־יָדִ֔י וַאֲנִ֖י אֲשִׁיבֶ֥נּוּ אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לֹֽא־יֵרֵ֥ד בְּנִ֖י עִמָּכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־אָחִ֨יו מֵ֜ת וְה֧וּא לְבַדֹּ֣ו נִשְׁאָ֗ר וּקְרָאָ֤הוּ אָסֹון֙ בַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֵּֽלְכוּ־בָ֔הּ וְהֹורַדְתֶּ֧ם אֶת־שֵׂיבָתִ֛י בְּיָגֹ֖ון שְׁאֹֽולָה׃
