When they had been brought safely through, then we found out that the island was called Malta. | And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita. |

The natives showed us extraordinary kindness; for because of the rain that had set in and because of the cold, they kindled a fire and received us all. | And the barbarous people showed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold. |
But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand. | And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. |
When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they began saying to one another, “Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, and though he has been saved from the sea, justice has not allowed him to live.” | And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. |
However he shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm. | And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. |

But they were expecting that he was about to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had waited a long time and had seen nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and began to say that he was a god. | Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. |
Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us courteously three days. | In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously. |

And it happened that the father of Publius was lying in bed afflicted with recurrent fever and dysentery; and Paul went in to see him and after he had prayed, he laid his hands on him and healed him. | And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. |
After this had happened, the rest of the people on the island who had diseases were coming to him and getting cured. | So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed: |
They also honoured us with many marks of respect; and when we were setting sail, they supplied us with all we needed. | Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary. |
At the end of three months we set sail on an Alexandrian ship which had wintered at the island, and which had the Twin Brothers for its figurehead. | And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux. |
After we put in at Syracuse, we stayed there for three days. | And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. |

From there we sailed around and arrived at Rhegium, and a day later a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli. | And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli: |

There we found some brothers, and were invited to stay with them for seven days; and thus we came to Rome. | Where we found brothers, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome. |

And the brothers, when they heard about us, came from there as far as the Market of Appius and Three Inns to meet us; and when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage. | And from thence, when the brothers heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage. |

When we entered Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him. | And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him. |

After three days Paul called together those who were the leading men of the Jews, and when they came together, he began saying to them, “Brothers, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. | And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brothers, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. |
And when they had examined me, they were willing to release me because there was no ground for putting me to death. | Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me. |
But when the Jews objected, I was forced to appeal to Caesar, not that I had any accusation against my nation. | But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of. |

For this reason, therefore, I requested to see you and to speak with you, for I am wearing this chain for the sake of the hope of Israēl.” | For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israēl I am bound with this chain. |
They said to him, “We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brothers come here and reported or spoken anything bad about you. | And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judea concerning you, neither any of the brothers that came showed or spoke any harm of you. |

But we desire to hear from you what your views are; for concerning this sect, it is known to us that it is spoken against everywhere.” | But we desire to hear of you what you thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against. |

When they had set a day for Paul, they came to him at his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Mōses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening. | And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Mōses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. |
Some were being persuaded by the things spoken, but others would not believe. | And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. |
And when they didn’t agree with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one parting word, “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers, | And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Ghost by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers, |

For the heart of this people has become dull, And with their ears they scarcely hear, And they have closed their eyes; Otherwise they might see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart and return, And I would heal them.”’ | For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. |

Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will also listen.” | Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. |
[When he had spoken these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.] | And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves. |

preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered. | Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him. |
