NAS | TextRec |
---|---|
He entered Jericho and was passing through. | And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. |
And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich. | And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. |
Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature. | And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. |
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree in order to see him, for he was about to pass through that way. | And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. |

When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” | And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at your house. |
And he hurried and came down and received him gladly. | And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. |
When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” | And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. |

Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much.” | And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. |
And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. | And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. |
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” | For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. |
While they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. | And as they heard these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. |
So he said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then return. | He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. |
And he called ten of his slaves, and gave them ten minas and said to them, ‘Do business with this until I come back.’ | And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. |
But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to reign over us.’ | But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. |
When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be called to him so that he might know what business they had done. | And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. |
The first appeared, saying, ‘Master, your mina has made ten minas more.’ | Then came the first, saying, Lord, your pound has gained ten pounds. |
And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave, because you have been faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over ten cities.’ | And he said unto him, Well, you good servant: because you have been faithful in a very little, have you authority over ten cities. |
The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, master, has made five minas.’ | And the second came, saying, Lord, your pound has gained five pounds. |
And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’ | And he said likewise to him, Be you also over five cities. |
Another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept put away in a handkerchief; | And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is your pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: |
for I was afraid of you, because you are an exacting man; you take up what you didn’t lay down and reap what you didn’t sow.’ | For I feared you, because you are an austere man: you takest up that you layedst not down, and reapest that you didst not sow. |
ἐκ
τοῦ
σου
σε,
He said to him, ‘By your own words I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am an exacting man, taking up what I didn’t lay down and reaping what I didn’t sow? | And he says unto him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I didn’t sow: |
19:23 καὶ
διὰ
τί
οὐκ
μου
τὸ
ἐπὶ
Then why did you not put my money in the bank, and having come, I would have collected it with interest?’ | Wherefore then gavest not you my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? |
Then he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ | And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that has ten pounds. |
25 (καὶ
And they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas already.’ | (And they said unto him, Lord, he has ten pounds.) |
I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who doesn’t have, even what he does have shall be taken away. | For I say unto you, That unto every one which has shall be given; and from him that has not, even that he has shall be taken away from him. |
But these enemies of mine, who didn’t want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.” | But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. |
After he had said these things, he was going on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. | And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. |
When he approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, | And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, |
saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. | Saying, Go you into the village over against you; in the which at your entering you shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. |
19:31 καὶ
ἐάν
τις
διὰ
τί

If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of it.’” | And if any man ask you, Why do you loose him? thus shall you say unto him, Because the Lord has need of him. |
So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. | And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. |
As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” | And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose you the colt? |
They said, “The Lord has need of it.” | And they said, The Lord has need of him. |
They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it. | And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. |
As he was going, they were spreading their coats on the road. | And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. |
As soon as he was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, | And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; |

shouting: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” | Saying, Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. |
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” | And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke your disciples. |
But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!” | And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. |
When he approached Jerusalem, he saw the city and wept over it, | And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, |
