NASTextRec
Now it happened that he was passing through some grainfields on a Sabbath; and his disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating the grain. And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
6:2 τινὲς δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων εἶπαν, τί ποιεῖτε οὐκ ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν; 2 τινὲς δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων εἶπον αὐτοῖς, τί ποιεῖτε οὐκ ἔξεστιν ποιεῖν ἐν τοῖς σάββασι;
But some of the Pharisees said, “Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do you that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
6:3 καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς, οὐδὲ τοῦτο ἀνέγνωτε ἐποίησεν Δαυὶδ ὅτε ἐπείνασεν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ [ὄντες], 3 καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς, οὐδὲ τοῦτο ἀνέγνωτε, ἐποίησε Δαβίδ, ὁπότε ἐπείνασεν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ὄντες;
And Jesus answering them said, “Have you not even read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him, And Jesus answering them said, Have you not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;
6:4 [ὡς] εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως λαβὼν ἔφαγεν καὶ ἔδωκεν τοῖς μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ, οὓς οὐκ ἔξεστιν φαγεῖν εἰ μὴ μόνους τοὺς ἱερεῖς; 4 ὡς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως ἔλαβε, καὶ ἔφαγε, καὶ ἔδωκε καὶ τοῖς μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ, οὓς οὐκ ἔξεστι φαγεῖν εἰ μὴ μόνους τοὺς ἱερεῖς;
how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the consecrated bread which is not lawful for any to eat except the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?” How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the showbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
And he was saying to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
On another Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching; and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
The scribes and the Pharisees were watching him closely to see if he healed on the Sabbath, so that they might find reason to accuse him. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
But he knew what they were thinking, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!” And he got up and came forward. But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
6:9 εἶπεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς αὐτούς, ἐπερωτῶ ὑμᾶς εἰ ἔξεστιν τῷ σαββάτῳ ἀγαθοποιῆσαι κακοποιῆσαι, ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἀπολέσαι; 9 εἶπεν οὖν Ἰησοῦς πρὸς αὐτούς, Ἐπερωτήσω ὑμᾶς, τί ἔξεστι τοῖς σάββασιν, ἀγαθοποιῆσαι κακοποιῆσαι, ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἀπολέσαι;
And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to destroy it?” Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
After looking around at them all, he said to him, “Stretch out your hand!” And he did so; and his hand was restored. And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
But they themselves were filled with rage, and discussed together what they might do to Jesus. And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
It was at this time that he went off to the mountain to pray, and he spent the whole night in prayer to God. And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
And when day came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also named as apostles: And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
Simōn, whom he also named Peter, and Andreas his brother; and Jacōb and Jōhn; and Philip and Bartholomew; Simōn, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andreas his brother, Jacōb and Jōhn, Philip and Bartholomew,
and Matthew and Thōmas; Jacōb the son of Alphaeus, and Simōn who was called the Zealot; Matthew and Thōmas, Jacōb the son of Alphaeus, and Simōn called Zēalōt,
Judas the son of Jacōb, and Judas Iskariōt, who became a traitor. And Judas the brother of Jacōb, and Judas Iskariōt, which also was the traitor.
Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place; and there was a large crowd of his disciples, and a great throng of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidōn, And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidōn, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were oppressed with unclean spirits were being cured. And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
And all the people were trying to touch him, for power was coming from him and healing them all. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
And turning his gaze toward his disciples, he began to say, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be you poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you that hunger now: for you shall be filled. Blessed are you that weep now: for you shall laugh.
Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. Blessed are you, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets. Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full. But woe unto you that are rich! for you have received your consolation.
Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Woe unto you that are full! for you shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for you shall mourn and weep.
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way. Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
“But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, don’t withhold your shirt from him either. And unto him that smites you on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that takes away your cloak forbid not to take your coat also.
Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, don’t demand it back. Give to every man that asks of you; and of him that takes away your goods ask them not again.
Treat others the same way you want them to treat you. And as you would that men should do to you, do you also to them likewise.
6:32 καὶ εἰ ἀγαπᾶτε τοὺς ἀγαπῶντας ὑμᾶς, ποία ὑμῖν χάρις ἐστίν;
32 καὶ εἰ ἀγαπᾶτε τοὺς ἀγαπῶντας ὑμᾶς, ποία ὑμῖν χάρις ἐστί;
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. For if you love them which love you, what thank have you? for sinners also love those that love them.
6:33 καὶ [γὰρ] ἐὰν ἀγαθοποιῆτε τοὺς ἀγαθοποιοῦντας ὑμᾶς, ποία ὑμῖν χάρις ἐστιν καὶ οἱ ἁμαρτωλοὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ποιοῦσιν. 33 καὶ ἐὰν ἀγαθοποιῆτε τοὺς ἀγαθοποιοῦντας ὑμᾶς, ποία ὑμῖν χάρις ἐστί;
If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you do good to them which do good to you, what thank have you? for sinners also do even the same.
6:34 καὶ ἐὰν δανίσητε παρ᾿ ὧν ἐλπίζετε λαβεῖν, ποία ὑμῖν χάρις [ἐστίν]; καὶ ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἁμαρτωλοῖς δανίζουσιν ἵνα ἀπολάβωσιν τὰ ἴσα. 34 καὶ ἐὰν δανείζητε παρ᾿ ὧν ἐλπίζετε ἀπολαβεῖν, ποία ὑμῖν χάρις ἐστί;
If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thank have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. But love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
“Don’t judge, and you will not be judged; and don’t condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned. Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive, and you shall be forgiven:
Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
μήτι δύναται τυφλὸς τυφλὸν ὁδηγεῖν;
οὐχὶ ἀμφότεροι εἰς βόθυνον ἐμπεσοῦνται;
39 εἶπε δὲ παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς, μήτι δύναται τυφλὸς τυφλὸν ὁδηγεῖν;
οὐχὶ ἀμφότεροι εἰς βόθυνον πεσοῦνται;
And he also spoke a parable to them: “A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit? And he spoke a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher. The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
6:41 Τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου, τὴν δὲ δοκὸν τὴν ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ ὀφθαλμῷ οὐ κατανοεῖς; 41 Τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου, τὴν δὲ δοκὸν τὴν ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ ὀφθαλμῷ οὐ κατανοεῖς;
Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don’t notice the log that is in your own eye? And why beholdest you the mote that is in your brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in your own eye?
6:42 πῶς δύνασαι λέγειν τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου, ἀδελφέ, ἄφες ἐκβάλω τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σου, αὐτὸς τὴν ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σου δοκὸν οὐ βλέπων;
42  πῶς δύνασαι λέγειν τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου, ἀδελφέ, ἄφες ἐκβάλω τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σου, αὐτὸς τὴν ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σου δοκὸν οὐ βλέπων;
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself don’t see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye. Either how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in your eye, when you yourself beholdest not the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the mote that is in your brother's eye.
For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit. For a good tree brings not forth corrupt fruit; neither does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men don’t gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men don’t gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
6:46 Τί δέ με καλεῖτε, Κύριε κύριε, καὶ οὐ ποιεῖτε λέγω; 46 Τί δέ με καλεῖτε, Κύριε, κύριε, καὶ οὐ ποιεῖτε λέγω;
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do what I say? And why call you me, Lord, Lord, and don’t the things which I say?
Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: Whosoever comes to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like:
he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.” But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
